New name crush, wdyt?

I’ve recently fallen back in love with [name]Lurleen[/name]. To me, it feels very quirky and vintage with a sweet southern twang. I also like that it is very uncommon ( pretty sure it doesn’t appear in the US top 1000), Yet still very familiar and easy to pronounce. I’ve never seen it mentioned on the site before, so I was wondering what you all think about it. [name]Do[/name] you prefer the spelling [name]Lurleen[/name] or [name]Lurline[/name]?

[name]Edit[/name]: Also, do you think it could work as a middle for front runner [name]Oona[/name]? I’m currently thinking about [name]Oona[/name] [name]Lorelei[/name], but I like the idea of [name]Oona[/name] [name]Lurleen[/name]/ [name]Oona[/name] [name]Lurline[/name].

I’ve never heard of it before! I definitely prefer the spelling [name]Lurline[/name], but the Lur sound puts me off, it isnt very nice on the ears

The Lur part is very closed off; you can’t really say it with your mouth fully opened, you almost HAVE to slur it a bit. And I’ve never been a fan of the long E sound; I’ve been in and out of choirs most of my life, and that particular sound tends to be avoided like the plague. You have to sing ‘eh’ not ‘ee.’ So I don’t really like it at all.

I’ve never heard of it, either, but I really dislike the “lur” sound. I much prefer [name]Lorelei[/name].

I can definitely see the charm of the name:) Are you a Simpsons fan? [name]Lurleen[/name] Lumpkin was a pretty, sweet, country-singing guest character who tried to tempt [name]Homer[/name] away from [name]Marge[/name]. She was voiced by [name]Beverly[/name] D’[name]Angelo[/name], and despite the whole temptress thing, managed to be pretty likable–she even came back in another episode.

Anyway, that’s [name]Lurleen[/name] to me  My feeling about the name is that it would make a charming person seem even more charming, and sounds especially adorable when uttered with a Southern twang, but it might not be so great outside those circumstances. I could see it maybe being cute with a sister [name]Clementine[/name] and brother [name]Arlo[/name].

I’ve never heard [name]Lurleen[/name] either. I’m not sure what I think…I’m kinda neutral on this one. I much prefer [name]Lorelei[/name] to [name]Lurleen[/name]. [name]Oona[/name] [name]Lorelei[/name] is very pretty!

When you say [name]Lurleen[/name], I imagine a woman in her sixties gossiping with her girlfriends in their [name]Sunday[/name] school group. She talks like [name]Paula[/name] [name]Deen[/name] and likes to wear big straw hats with flowers and bows on them. I can’t see it on a child at all.

I’m not a Simpsons fan but I probably did see thy episode at some point in my childhood if its an older one. Maybe that’s why it feels so familiar? I agree that it would make a charming person seem even more charming.

Hmmm that’s sort of what I love about it. It’s very unexpected for this generation. I know that imagery was supposed to be negative, but it’s actually jut sold me on the name even more.

Can I be brutally honest? She sounds like a stripper at a low class redneck beer joint.

Haha wow, that certainly was “brutally honest”. And also a bit classist…

I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a stripper name. To me names like [name]Crystal[/name] and [name]Destiny[/name] sound waaaay more strippery. I don’t see that at all but to each their own I suppose.

I don’t like it. It sounds like someone slurring their words. it feels awkward on the tongue.

Sorry, I didn’t mean offense and I am not classist at all. I simply mean that it falls in the category of redneck for me. Like Hee Haw. I could totally see [name]Lurleen[/name] on Hee Haw and being the naughty one.

It does sound a bit Southern and definitely old-fashioned, but the only actual reference I have to this name is the young adult fiction author [name]Lurlene[/name] McDaniel (there’s one more spelling option for you to consider, lol). She mostly wrote about kids with cancer, auto-immune disorders, etc and their struggles coming to terms with being ill. They were about as depressing as you would expect, but my sister (who recently graduated with a degree in Social Work) was obsessed with these and had nearly all of her books, so I happened to read a few. Anyway, it’s not my personal style, but it is by no means a bad name. I can’t think of anything wrong with it. =]

No offense taken. We all have our own associations .

Ooh I hadn’t considered that spelling before. I really like it.

I’m not fond of how it would be pronounced, but I would spell it [name]Lurleen[/name] because I would pronounce [name]Lurline[/name] like [name]Caroline[/name].
It sounds like the name of a little girl in a TV show like [name]Little[/name] House on the [name]Prairie[/name], but set in the South. I see her like [name]Little[/name] Orphan [name]Annie[/name], but in a straw hat and a plaid shirt.
I definitely wouldn’t use it as a first name, but I’ve heard far worse names. If you really love it, it could be a good middle name.

It sounds like a waitress on ‘TrueBlood’.

I’m going against the flow and saying that I like it. Though with the spelling [name]Lurlene[/name], as someone already mentioned. And I think it would fit beautifully on a little girl. And how about [name]Una[/name] [name]Lurlene[/name]? For some reason [name]Oona[/name] has always looked misspelt to me.
