Hey berries
So, I have a new favourite boys name BUT I must explain first, and I also need your advice on a few things before it goes on our list.
First of all, we are Scottish, so some of my favourite names are sometimes pronounced a bit odd. One example of this is Rowan. I adore this name. So much. But I hear a lot of people where I’m from pronounce the ‘row’ part to rhyme with cow, and even when I look at the name and read it aloud or in my head, I say it this way which is frustrating… I would want it to be pronounced to rhyme with show.
So with that in mind, I came across it spelt like Roen And oh my, I love it even more!! When I read the name in my head, straight away I said it how I’d want it pronounced. Maybe because my brain sees the ‘oe’ sound and automatically recognises it? I’m thinking of Joe, toe, doe etc.
First question- what is your opinion on this spelling? Would you pronounce it any other way? I had also considered Rowen as another option, would this be better/more accepted? I still think there would be a lot of confusion in the pronunciation with our accent etc though. Then there’s Rohen but I’m not as keen on this.
Second question- do you think it goes with my daughter’s name, Zara Kate? He would be Roen James The only thing I’m struggling with is that our surname is Green@n, so both first name and surname would have the same ending sound, albeit the first name is written ‘en’ and the surname is ‘an’. This is another reason I didn’t want to spell it Rowan. Is this too much of a mouthful, does it flow well enough?
…and breathe!!
Opinions, as always, as much appreciated!!
Thank you
