New Name Crush

Hey ladies! So, I’ve recently been crushing on the name [name]Mariah[/name], but I am worried that everyone will think I named my child after [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong - I like [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name], but I just think [name]Mariah[/name] sounds very pretty. What do you think? Honest opinions and initial reactions are very welcomed

I think it’s lovely! But if you like it, it shouldnt define it. I can see it being an association; but I have a feeling it wont be as noticeable as it seems.

I don’t think it’s going to be too big a problem nowadays. [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] isn’t as famous as she used to be. That being said, I don’t like [name]Mariah[/name]. I think it has a pretty sound, but for some reason I can’t make myself like it.

I don’t think people are going to assume right off she’s named after [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name]. As dantea said, she isn’t as famous these days. I still always think of that folk song, They Call the Wind [name]Maria[/name] whenever I hear it first, rather than [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name].

I admit that [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] is the first thing/person that pops into my head when I hear the name. The second is “pariah.”

I met an adult [name]Mariah[/name] and I personally didn’t think anything about [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name]. I think it could be an association that people have, but not enough to take it off your list.

I have a similar problem where I’ve been liking the name [name]Matilda[/name] and we had already long decided on the middle name [name]Rose[/name]. And found out afterwards [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Rose[/name] happens to be the exact name of [name]Heath[/name] Ledger’s daughter. And I’m like, great are people going to think I just chose a celebrity baby name? But I’m just gonna go for it anyway haha. Though I’m sure a lot fewer people know a celebrity’s baby name vs [name]Mariah[/name] herself.

Maybe you can use Maraya instead?

I actually read that as Ma-ree-ah until I got to the [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] part.

Maybe [name]Moriah[/name]? There’s a Mount [name]Moriah[/name] in the Bible.

I see [name]Mariah[/name] and I don’t jump to Ms. [name]Carey[/name], but to a minor [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name] character, haha. I would pronounce it [name]Mar[/name]-EYE-uh.

I like it!

I think [name]Mariah[/name] can most certainly defy the [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] association. I’d read it as “muh-[name]RYE[/name]-ah” every time, not as “muh-[name]REE[/name]-uh,” but it seems that others may say “muh-[name]REE[/name]-uh” ([name]Maria[/name]) from first glance.

[name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] is the only one I’ve ever heard of.

I’ve heard the boy name [name]Moriah[/name] a few times

I like it, and while I think you might get a few people who feel the need to ask if you named her after [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name], I really don’t think anyone will actually think you did. I think the name is very pretty.

I didn’t read the previous comments, so it could just be me, but I feel like [name]Mariah[/name] has kind of a down market vibe to it. A ‘white trash’ name I guess you could call it. I don’t know why, but that’s just the vibe I get.

I know enough Mariahs to not associate the name with [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name]. [name]Mariah[/name] is rather pleasant. Have you considered [name]Moriah[/name]?
