New name data this week! What names will you be watching?

My apologies if someone has already made a thread about this.

So I believe the new SSA data will be released Friday [name_f]May[/name_f] 11. Who is excited to parse the data? What names and/or trends will you be watching? Biggest movers? Celebrity influences? Top 10 100 1000 entrant and exit predictions?

[name_m]New[/name_m] enteries to top 1000 and if there are any Turkish names beyond [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and Aydın

I hope [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] but especially [name_f]Emily[/name_f] fall out of the top 10, because I am SO over them.

Predictions:
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] definitely in top 10
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] maybe in top 10
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] in top 10 in Mississippi
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] in top 15
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] in top 30
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] in top 250
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] in top 300
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] will rise a bunch, as will other Celtic names: [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Kian[/name_m], [name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Mohammed[/name_m]/some other spelling of this will rise notably
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] will enter in the 800s

[name_f]Ann[/name_f] will fall off the list
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] and [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] will be out of the top 20
A bunch of -aiden names will fall out of the list. [name_u]Brayden[/name_u] will be out of the top 75. A lot of Br- names will go down, with some exceptions like [name_u]Bryn[/name_u].
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] will go down significantly for boys but still be on the list
[name_u]Kendall[/name_u] will fall off for boys

All of the 80s/90s names still in 2016’s top 150 will fall a lot: [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_m]Justin[/name_m], [name_u]Alexis[/name_u], [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f], [name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Kevin[/name_m] will remain in the top 100, but just barely (why do Americans love [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] so much??)
Misspelled trendy names that were popular 5/10/15 years ago will continue to fall, hopefully off the list: [name_u]Kamryn[/name_u]/assorted spellings especially for boys, [name_f]Alisha[/name_f], [name_f]Paityn[/name_f], [name_f]Carlee[/name_f]

I’m really interested to see if [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] rises or falls.

Mostly just curious to see whether my favorites rise or fall, but I’m especially interested to see if there are any jumps for [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_u]Vale[/name_u], and [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]! I hope they don’t catch on too much.

And I’m not sure why, but I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll be seeing a big rise for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] over the next couple of years. Feels like it has the potential to be the next [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

I think [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] is going to leave the top 1000. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is going to be taken over by either [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is entering the top 10.

I think [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a lovely and classic name. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] has been so popular because of this and she has been considered as a timeless, elegant name. Please keep your comments kind on Nameberry, even if the names aren’t to your taste!

She didn’t say anything wrong, she’s just stating her opinion…that’s what this forum is for. I agree that I have met too many [name_f]Emily[/name_f]’s and Emmas

@kipperbo

I didn’t mean any rudeness. I was just saying that stating the fact that she is ‘SO over’ a name may be offensive to someone looking at these forums whose name is [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. I know I for one would not feel very special! My intention was not to be rude, I’m sorry if I offended you.

Lots of people on name websites love to talk about how my name is too harsh and ugly and nickname-y but I don’t tell them to be kinder, because I realize it’s not a personal attack on me. I know plenty of people named [name_f]Emily[/name_f], because it was the #1 name the year I was born, and I’m not telling them their name sucks. I don’t hate [name_f]Emily[/name_f], I dislike names that stay in the top 10 for girls for decades. If this were 1992 I’d be saying the same thing about [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f].

I’m curious about [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. I feel like I’ve seen quite a few baby Octavias lately so I’m very interested to see how big of a jump it has.

As someone else already mentioned, I’m also interested in [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]. It fits the trend of the old fashioned names making a comeback, but the name had a very rough 2017.

Edited for privacy.

I’m having fun looking a the guesses (on the main page) for the top 10! Collective wisdom seems to be that [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] will be replaced by [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] in the top 10 for 2017. Our runner-up votes for new entries to the top 10 are [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], but we’re not as confident that they’ll replace [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. However…just look how (in)accurate we were with the new little prince’s name!

Methodology is a bit rough–I searched the contest page for the number of occurrences of the current top 10, plus the new guesses that come up in multiple entries. Some of the occurrences ([name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]) turn up in the discussions more than the list guesses, but it doesn’t affect the top 10+2 for either boys or girls.

Collective top 10:
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] (60 occurrences)

It’s up. On SSA official website.

Wow, I can’t believe how right you were on [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]! It went from 1028 to 538–the seventh most increase of a name for girls.

I’m really surprised [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] didn’t jump more! She actually went from #959 to #993. I guess she’s only name nerd popular? Super surprised at [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]'s big leap though from #782 to #613.

As for the top ten, really surprised [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is still #1! I was maybe expecting [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] to take her place.

Does anyone know what spurred Camreigh?

So a few thoughts -

Firstly what happened to [name_f]Samara[/name_f] in the last year? It gained 150 places! And if it isn’t some bizarre fluke are they all from St. [name_m]Louis[/name_m]/surrounding area?

Secondly [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] had such a huge drop (85 places!). What happened?
