New Name Discoveries

I thought it would be cool if we collected a list of new name discoveries. I’m thinking we should limit this to established/historical names, because modern names like Fayden/[name]Tayden[/name]/[name]Zayden[/name] could be endless.

So if you stumble upon a name you think the casual name nerd would not be familiar with, please add! And please share a little context and what you know about the name.

Preserved: From the family tree. I suppose it’s a Puritan virtue name.

Wait: Also possible virtue name?

[name]Theophania[/name]: Original form of [name]Tiffany[/name] traditionally given to babies born on [name]Epiphany[/name].

Recently discovered [name]Theodosia[/name].

Two Hebrew names (male) : [name]Doron[/name] [do-[name]RON[/name]] and [name]Oren[/name]. Nameberry cites them as meaning gift and pine tree, respectively, and suggests that [name]Oren[/name] is popular in [name]Israel[/name] - I think it’s quite handsome.

Delatah (or Delata): I recently read this in a book I was reading, it was given to the author’s daughter as a middle name. It means “thought” and comes from the language of the Lenape Native American Tribe. I thought it was a great choice with a good meaning for those who wouldn’t use [name]Faith[/name] or [name]Grace[/name]

That’s interesting, I knew an [name]Oren[/name] in school, so it always seemed like a normal name to me. Maybe it will get more popular with the trend for two syllable boy names ending with n.

Oh, this is cool. I think Native American names always have such meaning.
