I just discovered the name Tamarisk today! I rather love it, it fits in with my usual style of unusual word and nature names. It sounds some what like other familiar name, yet keeps its own with an unexpected ending. Tamarisk is a tree name (or tree genus name), its a rather beautiful tree but does not grow in the country where I am from so I’m assuming a lot of people might not make the tree connection.
Anyway, so I guess I’m looking for the general reaction of berries when they hear/see the name Tamarisk. (Nameberry says the pronunciation is [name_m]TAM[/name_m] ah risk.) I am sort of expecting a not-so-favourable response, but at least tell me whether you actually think this is a usable name irl or not! Is the -risk part too risky?
[name_f]TIA[/name_f].
The word itself sounds familiar, but I didn’t know it was a tree, so I suspect I might have read it in the book at some point and forgot about it.
As a name, I don’t mind it. I wouldn’t say I like it, but I don’t immediately dislike it. It’s easy to pronounce and does have a nice sound to it, but I did notice the “risk” right from the start so I think it might be hard to use for a person.
[name_f]Tamar[/name_f], [name_f]Tamara[/name_f], [name_f]Tamarind[/name_f], and even [name_m]Tamarack[/name_m] (I think that could be used for a girl too) are very similar might be easier to use, though it does lose the refreshing “isk” ending. [name_f]Mariska[/name_f] would be another nice addition to the list.
The -isk ending is hard for me to digest in a name. I wish it was Tamariska. But it’s kind of cool and snappy. I think I’d like it if I met someone with that name.
i instantly thought of tamarind candy, i think [name_f]Ria[/name_f], [name_m]Tam[/name_m], or [name_f]Tammy[/name_f] are cute nns
