Well, I’ve created a name (by created I mean it’s not on nameberry and I don’t think it’s an actual name yet ) but I feel that if I named my child this, she would resent it forever. But here it is anyway: Ermella. I’ve even thought of a middle name to go with it: how does Ermella [name_f]Jane[/name_f] sound?
Anyhoo… thoughts? Any opinions on my weird mash of [name_f]Erma[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f]? Please be respectful…
Sorry, but it sounds like a made up 1930’s country name (I have lots of weird 30’s names in my ancestry database…Zilzanetta, Bernadene, etc.) The farmwives must have been bored.
I’m not a fan. Not the fact that it’s a smushed name so much, just that it sounds and looks to much like one - the ‘erm’ and the ‘ella’ sound and look very separated to me. [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] or [name_f]Carmelia[/name_f] sound quite similar?
I knew a Hermella, so it’s not that strange to me. I do feel a bit like it should have a H at the beginning. I don’t think Ermella’s awful at all, and I don’t think many non name nerds would even bat an eyelid at it. I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as a middle.
I don’t mind the sound, but really dislike the look (the Erm- part I just really don’t like at all - I dislike [name_f]Erma[/name_f] too). I wouldn’t mind Emella or Armella so much, but no, not fond of Ermella.
I’m not a fan. I think it has an off-putting sound, and the look of it doesn’t strike me as very charming, either. It sounds very clunky, and not in the cute way - this is just my personal opinion, though! But I personally think the Erm sound is really unflattering.
Thank you for all replies! It means a lot to hear everyone’s opinons. @oliviasarah I do like [name_f]Fenella[/name_f], it has a nice ring to it.
It’s so interesting to hear the total opposites in replies: the “erm” sound is very controversial!
