New Nickname for Me?

Hello name enthusiasts! I’m posting this forum with perhaps an unusual question. I am not seeking baby name, but am actually taking about my own name, as a teenager who is preparing to enter university.

My given name is [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], I go by [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] my name (please no one trash it in the replies!). I think it is so beautiful and unique and I love my dear parents for picking it out for me! However, as I move on to a new chapter in my life I’m hoping to reinvent myself a bit. On this note, I am considering going by the nickname “MK” to all my new friends

Throughout high school I’ve been relatively introverted, and had what I consider a fairly graceful, elegant, flowery name (meaning “queen of the faeries“) to go along with my personality. However, my name has been constantly mispronounced and misspelled through my life, which is a bit of a nuisance. Additionally, as I enter college I’m hoping to push myself to be more outgoing, and was considering a more “spunky” nickname to go along with this new persona. If I were to use MK, it would be causally and only among friends. I wouldn’t use the nickname with my professors, employers, or family.

Would it be difficult to adjust to this new name? Could I possibly go by both? Or is MK simply not as cute as I think it is? I have so many questions and am completely torn. If anyone has changed their name in the past, or has any advice, I would love to hear from you! Thanks for any help!

I think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is really beautiful and unique for someone your age! I personally think it’s much better than MK, but there’s nothing wrong with MK if you want to try something new. Other nicknames are [name_f]Mae[/name_f], Maevie and M/[name_f]Emme[/name_f]. Though just [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] sounds really cool the way it is!
Whether or not it’d be difficult to adjust to a new name depends on you. You could try calling yourself MK at Starbucks or something to see how you feel about it. Though I will say that I don’t think MK is any easier to pronounce than [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. Because when you’d say “I’m MK” out loud people would probably ask you to repeat it as it isn’t a name they’re used to.
I “changed” my name, not legally, just what I go by. It took some time to get used to but it wasn’t a big deal (though in my case my “new” name sounded similar to my normal name). I used it with everyone but family and people who met me as my old name

I would stick with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] If I had your name

It’s really beautiful to be honest, despite it not being my style of naming.

You should be [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]! But otherwise, I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as nicknames for you.
I also like above person’s suggestion of Maevyn or Maevryn!
