[name]Just[/name] some recent names I’ve seen around. In the immortal words of Coffee Talk with [name]Linda[/name] [name]Richman[/name], “Talk amongst yourselves!” (I hope the six of you who are old enough to remember that SNL skit enjoyed the reference.)
[name]Bridget[/name] nn [name]Jet[/name] - Saw this in the movie Practical [name]Magic[/name], which had some great names: [name]Sally[/name], [name]Gillian[/name] nn [name]Gilly[/name], and the odd sibset of [name]Kylie[/name] & [name]Antonia[/name]. The two aging aunts were [name]Frances[/name] nn [name]Franny[/name] and [name]Bridget[/name] nn [name]Jet[/name]. I thought that was so cool. [name]Brigid[/name] of Kildare is my patron saint, and I’ve thought of using [name]Bridget[/name] in her honor. What do you think of the nn [name]Jet[/name]?
[name]Benedict[/name] nn [name]Ben[/name] - Our current Pope recently announced his resignation, so there may be a few more baby Benedicts around. I’d love to name a boy in honor of the Pope who served when I was confirmed. What do you think of [name]Benedict[/name] nn [name]Ben[/name]? Is the [name]Arnold[/name] association too strong?
[name]Josette[/name] - The movie Dark Shadows included this name, as well as some other lovelies: [name]Barnabas[/name], [name]Angelique[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], and [name]David[/name] among them. [name]Johnny[/name] Depp’s character said something to the character [name]Victoria[/name] about not calling her [name]Vicky[/name], because [name]Victoria[/name] was so beautiful he couldn’t bare to part with a single syllable. It almost made me stop liking nicknames.
[name]Eva[/name] - This is the only name besides [name]Elizabeth[/name] my husband has given a #1 rating, and I thought briefly of using it instead of [name]Elizabeth[/name], but changed my mind. I agree with other posters who say it may get lost amongst the Avas & Evelyns. I love the EE-va pronunciation. I associate it with beautiful French actress [name]Eva[/name] [name]Green[/name] - whose middle name, btw, is Gaëlle. Gorgeous!
[name]Sibylla[/name] - Speaking of Ms. [name]Green[/name], this is the name of her character in Kingdom of [name]Heaven[/name]. (She plays characters with great names! She was also [name]Vesper[/name] Lynd in Casino [name]Royale[/name].) It’s similar to [name]Sybella[/name], and can also be spelled [name]Sybilla[/name]. What do you think? Is the pronunciation too awkward?
[name]Katarina[/name] or [name]Caterina[/name] - WDYT of this name on a non-Russian little girl? Any possible nicknames besides the obvious [name]Kat[/name]/[name]Cat[/name]? Which spelling do you prefer?
[name]Japheth[/name] - ([name]JAY[/name]-feth) This is my new favorite Biblical boy’s name. It’s unexpected but not weird, and has the cool nickname Japh.
