I’m [name_f]Cait[/name_f] and my husband and I have a 3 year old daughter ([name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]) We’re expecting baby number 2 on [name_f]October[/name_f] 31st, yay for halloween! I just wanted to get some opinions on the girls names we’re thinking about.
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] (I feel like this might have a bad association because of the [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] book although I’ve never read it)
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Callie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]/Elowyn
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this; maybe love it more as a middle but it works in both places definitely.
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]. This is my favorite from your list with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Callie[/name_f]- Not my favorite, but not bad!
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] - Reminds me too much of the princess This may not be a problem for you though. Works nicely with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this as well! Sounds really similar to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] though
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - Again, not my favorite but not bad
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - Honestly sounds like the same name as [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] but with a different sound at the beginning, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for you. Plus it just seems trendy to me whereas the others are more classic.
I love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f]!!
Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
My favorite is [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] to go with your [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
While I do like [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] (and you should know Looking for [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] is a great book and the character is not a bad character), I think it’s a little unexpected next to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. Not that it’s a big deal, I would just be surprised to find them as sisters. [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and [name_f]Callie[/name_f] are cute, but are very nickname-like in comparison to the fleshed out [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. (Once again, just my personal opinion - it wouldn’t be unthinkable)
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are both lovely, but they sound very similar to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
So that makes [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] the best options for you. I think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is most complementary of [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and they would make stunning sisters.
Congratulations…
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is effortlessly feminine and I think another girls name of a similar style would be perfect.
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] - This is a cool name and even though it is associated with the [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] novel I don’t think it’s negative nor that heightened. [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] sounds free spirited and youthful. But I think stylistically this name clashes with the sophisticated [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - Another upbeat spirited choice - a perfect sister for [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] - she’s spunky. I think [name_f]Lola[/name_f] lacks the sophistication and femininity needed as a sister for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. But [name_f]Lola[/name_f] could work as a pretty nickname for [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Emme[/name_f]’ & [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Lola[/name_f]’ is a lovely sister pairing.
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] - For me [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is name that feels popular and pretty but ultimately is slightly ‘meh’ I prefer [name_f]Callie[/name_f] as a nickname for something like [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], [name_f]Calista[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] etc. I think [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] & [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] would be pretty sibling pairing.
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] - I’m sorry for the negativity once again but for me [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] on a girl it’s just [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid and I’m not keen. [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] just doesn’t have that graceful elegant femininity that [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] has. I think [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] which has a similar feel to [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] but just has the right style for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] - She is a delightful Cornish choice meaning ‘elm’ she has the free spirited vibe whilst being feminine and elegant. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] feels like a character from a nineteenth century novel. Also she has the cute potential nickname of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. The only draw back is that she shares the same starting initial as [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] therefore making it limiting for future children.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this name!!! [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is effortless she has a feminine sound and is ultimately beautiful. A brilliant Shakespearean name and I love the nickname [name_u]Jules[/name_u] too. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] & [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is so beautiful.
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - Another fantastic choice. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is just lovely conjuring up images of summer she feels peaceful and happy. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] has the nickname [name_u]Clemmy[/name_u] which I think is really sweet and youthful. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] shares a similar ending as [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] which could be a slight tongue-twister.
I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] but agree it rhymes a bit too much with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (which I also love). I think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is best. The only ones I’m less thrilled about are [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], because the style is so different, and [name_f]Callie[/name_f], which just feels a little dull and incomplete next to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
I agree with previous posters that [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are too close to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (though they are lovely).
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] feels very nicknamey and incomplete next to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] or [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Callie[/name_f] would fit right in, and they have the L sounds you seems to favor.
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] also feels a bit incomplete, but I think it could stand next to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. I don’t like that it’s so similar to [name_f]Lily[/name_f], though.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] work well. I prefer [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] as a sister to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], but either of them make a very pretty pair.
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] feels totally out of left field here. Does it hold some specific meaning for you? I think it could make a great middle name; [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] and [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] are both good combinations.
First, [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous!
To go with big sis’s name, I would rule out [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], [name_f]Callie[/name_f], and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. The first two don’t really match well and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] sounds too similar to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] could work, but I think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] are the best options for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]'s sister.
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] - It’s all right, but it doesn’t go with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - Pretty, but as with [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], it doesn’t really go with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] - Not a favorite, but it’s still cute
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] - Too Disney-esque
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]/Elowyn - [name_m]Favorite[/name_m] on your list. If you don’t mind alliteration, I think it goes beautifully with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - Prefer the [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] spelling, but it’s still beautiful
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - It’s a pretty name, but too matchy with sister
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is by far my favorite, but I prefer [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]. If you used this spelling both girls would have double letters (two M’s and two T’s), which would be a cute, subtle way to tie the names together. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] would be a perfect combo!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] [name_f]Cait[/name_f], congratulations on your upcoming little bundle!
I’ll just go name by name here, but I think my opinions are very similar to a lot of the previous posters’.
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f]: I just don’t think this name is the same style as [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], plus I just can’t get past the fact that it’s a state in my country.
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] & [name_f]Callie[/name_f]: They seem like nicknames and compared to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], they just don’t measure up in my opinion. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]'s sister needs more substance in her name =] I do like these names, just not in this instance.
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]: I like this name with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], but only if it’s spelled [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] (The elongated spelling matches up better with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] for me) and pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_f]Ree[/name_f]-[name_f]ELL[/name_f] ([name_f]AIR[/name_f]-[name_f]Ree[/name_f]-Uhl doesn’t sound good with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] to me). So my vote with this name depends on pronunciation and spelling, haha. I really do like this name, though.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] & [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]: I really dislike both of these names (no offense to your personal style). But mostly you shouldn’t go with these names because as many others said, they are too close in sound too [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], especially [name_f]Clementine[/name_f].
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]: I have said a few times before that I love the name [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] (sorry I prefer this spelling). It’s gorgeous aesthetically and in sound, and you just can’t go wrong because it also sounds wonderful with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. As another poster said, as well, I think the [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] spelling goes really nicely with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]! But I’m biased =]
So, I vote for [name_f]Juliet/name_f & [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. So beautiful!
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] - oh my gosh, one of my favorite girl names!
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - I’ve never really liked this name, but it’s okay.
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] - cute, but not my style.
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] - I have a really good friend called [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], and although there’ll probably be some association with the princess, it’s pretty and works well as a first or middle name.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] - it’s got sort of an elegant flow to it. I like it!
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - One of those classic names that never loses its charm!
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - it’s okay. Feels like a bit of a mouthful to me.
I think [name_f]Juliet/name_f and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] work well with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]: Although I like either spelling I Would agree with pp that the [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] spellings fits in a little better with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]: I pronounce [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] as [name_u]Clem[/name_u]-in-tyne and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] as [name_f]Em[/name_f]-muh-leen so I think aren’t too similar however it would depend on how you pronounce both names, as to whether the actually are too similar or not.
I find your other options too trendy or short compared to the vintage sounding [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Callie[/name_f], but might suggest a full name like [name_f]Callista[/name_f] as her official name, and then call her [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are also sweet and go well with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
