I really like this for a boy but only when it’s pronounced like “[name]Nile[/name].” But I was wondering how they pronounce it in the UK? I don’t want to use a pronunciation that will sound ridiculous if we ever travel to the UK again. And how popular is it there?
I’m not in the UK, but it is an Irish name and the pronunciation is like “[name]Nile[/name]” according to [name]Frank[/name] Mccourt – Niall - Meaning and how to Pronounce the Irish Name Niall
So I think the [name]Nile[/name] pronunciation should be pretty wide spread right?
I like it, and I would have pronounced it [name]Nile[/name] too.
I think this one boygroup has a boy called [name]Niall[/name] in it and it’s pronounced “[name]Nile[/name]”. Didn’t I read this on nameberry the other day?
I’m from the UK, and yup it’s ‘nile’ although more distinguished like ‘ni-al’ not one syllable. It’s an Irish name so it’s quite common over there but not so much over here on the mainland.
I’ve heard ny-al and ny-all, which both sound a lot like [name]Nile[/name]. As far as I know it’s unusual in the UK, I have never met a [name]Niall[/name], only a [name]Neil[/name] who pronounced his name like ‘kneel’. The group taylorblueskye mentioned is called [name]One[/name] Direction. Lol I’m not much of a fan but they are quite popular in my age group. Because of that, people will be more familiar with the ny-al/l pronunciation.
There is a popular band called [name]One[/name] Direction, where all the members are from the UK. [name]One[/name] of the boy’s names is [name]Niall[/name], pronounced [name]Nile[/name] or [name]Nyle[/name]…
Good to know I was pronouncing it right, thanks! I think I’ll add it to my boy’s list…
I would pronounce it as ‘ny-al’ but in a way that smooshes together, so it sounds like a lot like ‘nile’. I’ve met a couple Nialls, it seems to be neither rare nor common.
I’m from the UK and personally I pronounce it Ny-al but I know everyone else I know pronounce it [name]Nile[/name]. So I would keep it as [name]Nile[/name].
