[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! Our baby is due any day and we are having trouble with a name. We have a daughter [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] already and our last name starts with a hard “k” sound. And I like names with nicknames.
I’d love some advice on these names… I like all but each has something that I’m not sure about.
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Nick[/name_u]) - is it weird to name a baby born in early [name_u]December[/name_u] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]? [name_m]Will[/name_m] people think we named him after [name_f]Santa[/name_f], good old St [name_u]Nick[/name_u]?
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] (nn [name_u]Cam[/name_u]) - will people think girl instead of boy? Also hard alliteration with first hard K sound of last name, though that could be cute.
[name_m]Grayson[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Gray[/name_u]) - I like it fine, it’s just not a name I have come across a lot where I am from ([name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f]).
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] (nn Hud) - this name sounds a bit hipster, trying too hard to me. But my husband loves it.
I think [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is the best fit with [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. I would avoid [name_u]Cameron[/name_u](it is used for girls quite a bit) and [name_m]Greyson[/name_m](it has exploded where I live). I do like [name_u]Hudson[/name_u].
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is my favourite, I think [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] are a bit too trendy, especially with [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] being so classic
Have you thought about [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]? That also has the nickname option of [name_u]Nick[/name_u]/[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is also really cute
I love [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] the best! They are awesome boys names
I agree on your worries on [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]…and wouldn’t use them if your worried about him being mistaken for girl or [name_f]Santa[/name_f]
My name is actually [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and I have a twin brother whom my mom almost named [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], she changed her mind because she felt the connection to the Czar and Czarina ([name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]) of [name_f]Russia[/name_f] was too gruesome… I think that’s a bit of a stretch and really wish she would have chosen [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] over the name she did choose, [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m].
My vote is for [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]! And if anything I find the [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]/[name_u]Christmas[/name_u] connection sweet and special, honoring the time he was born. I don’t think anyone will think you named him directly after [name_f]Santa[/name_f] Clause haha
[name_m]Grayson[/name_m] is the runner up, I think [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] sound very sophisticated and handsome together
Actually now I’m leaning more towards [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], I had to come back to comment bc the duo was ringing in my head… I really like [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] and think the two names compliment each other in a unique yet solid/classic fashion…
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is the only one I’d consider from your list. To me it doesn’t scream over the top [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], a few may comment on it but I don’t think it’s over the top.
I like [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] but with the nickname [name_m]Cole[/name_m]. [name_u]Nick[/name_u] feels dated to me.
I also like [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] nn [name_u]Gray[/name_u], and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]–but not Hud.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] together! [name_u]Gray[/name_u] is a cool nn. I love the name [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] myself but not so sure about Hud.
My husband is [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] so to me it is a man’s name. And I like it!
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] is ok but kind of boring, [name_m]Greyson[/name_m] is cute and I like the NN, and I love [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] but not Hud for a NN.
My personal preference would be for a classic name that has a modern-feeling nickname. That way [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and her brother have more of a connection in type of name.
ex.
[name_m]Philip[/name_m] nn [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] nn Vinko
I’m not good at nicknames…but I think you probably understand. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
