Nickname change?

I’m headed off to college this fall, and I’m tired of my hard to pronounce, mouthful of a name, [name]Damaris[/name]. It really doesn’t fit me, but i do, however, have a few choices for nicknames.

Merit: My family nickname

[name]Marit[/name]: [name]Royal[/name] Scandinavian version with a lovely meaning (pearl), but I worry about mispronunciation

[name]Merritt[/name]: More feminine, I feel, but sort of long.

[name]Marie[/name]: The most common, least likely to be messed up variant

Any opinions? Thanks so much!

I like [name]Marie[/name], and [name]Marit[/name].

Also: [name]Maria[/name], [name]Mara[/name], [name]Maris[/name], [name]Demi[/name], [name]Amy[/name], [name]Ari[/name], [name]Aris[/name], [name]Reese[/name].

[name]How[/name] do you pronounce it? “duh-[name]MAIR[/name]-is” is what I’m used to so I can’t imagine anyone mispronouncing it

If your fam calls you Merit then why not go with that? You’re already used to it

I like [name]Marie[/name], but what about something like [name]Damie[/name]? I particularly like the d-a-m combo and wouldn’t want to put it to waste.

I like Merit a lot!

Thank you guys so much!! I haven’t decided for sure yet, but these suggestions are super helpful  I’d never even considered [name]Damie[/name], [name]Reese[/name] or [name]Maris[/name]!

[name]Marie[/name] is nice!

I love [name]Marit[/name]! I think it’s so pretty. I had a prof named [name]Marit[/name] and I know there were some pronunciation issues and she kind of resigned herself to telling people not to bother most of the time, but I think it’s lovely.
