I could see it being pronounced Chy, Chee or Key.
Key as a shortening for [name_f]Chiara[/name_f]
Chee as in Ho [name_u]Chi[/name_u] [name_m]Minh[/name_m]
or Chy as in [name_f]China[/name_f]
I wouldnât instinctively know, I would very much be relying on the context. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was Chy so I voted for that
I wouldnât expect it to be [name_u]Kye[/name_u] though
Chi is totally neutral to me, I wouldnât assume either way
I would assume both âchyâ and âcheeâ equally.
If I saw it just written down on a paper with no context I would say Chee. If I knew it was a nickname for someone I would probably assume [name_u]Kye[/name_u].
Thanks for your thoughts!
I have both [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] for a girl and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] for a boy on my list and it got me thinking about Key/Kye as nicknames, but it would annoy me not to spell it [name_u]Chi[/name_u] as part of the whole nameâs spelling, but then also annoy me when on its own it doesnât have intuitive pronunciation! This has been really helpful in thinking about real world usability
When I see it my mind goes to the letter in the Greek alphabet, so my guess pronunciation-wise would be something like âkyeâ. It feels more masculine to me as a standalone that way. However, as nicknames for [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] or [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], I think both would work really well! If I knew [name_u]Chi[/name_u] was short for [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] I would get it right away, and if I didnât know beforehand, after the first time being corrected it would be an easy adjustment. [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] nn [name_u]Chi[/name_u] is also very intuitive in my opinion, so I think youâre good to go!
Thank you for your thoughts
I agree about the Greek letter thing!
