We’re having a baby girl any day now, and I’m absolutely in love with [name]Fairuza[/name], pronounced Fair-oo-zuh. It’s not too popular, and I would really love to use it, but I need a nickname. All my other kids have nicknames, and I can’t call her [name]Fairuza[/name] all the time. Please help! I need nickname ideas!
It’s a bit of a stretch, but I would use [name]Zara[/name] as a nick for [name]Fairuza[/name].
Others:
Fairzi
[name]Ruza[/name]
[name]Ferra[/name] (like [name]Terra[/name])
Zuza
[name]Zuzi[/name]
thanks! I kindof find it funny that you would suggest that because my other daughters name is actually [name]Zaira[/name] lol
i like some a few of them oyu’ve suggested though, thanks!
What about [name]Faye[/name]? I think [name]Faye[/name] is a pretty name on its own, but it utilizes the first syllable/sound in [name]Fairuza[/name], so it could work. It is definitely a different style, though. You could spell it [name]Fay[/name], I think too.
[name]Fairy[/name]
[name]FiFi[/name]
I recently read a book called ‘Funny in Farsi’ about an Iranian girl growing up in [name]America[/name], by Firoozeh [name]Dumas[/name], I think the names are pronounced very similarly.
She wanted to pick an ‘English’ name for herself and could only come up with [name]Farrah[/name]… which I think could work as a nn for [name]Fairuza[/name] also. Or [name]ZaZa[/name]?
I like the suggestion of [name]Fifi[/name]
Fai?
i think my favorite is Ru/e Roo or ruzy…might be other variatins for these
[name]Rue[/name] would be a cute nn!
Actually my name is [name]Fairuza[/name] and through-out my life I always had a hard time finding my nickname. Since I was born my family, cousins and friends called me by my full name, just plain “[name]Fairuza[/name]”. Then high school came and my classmates started to create my nickname for me. There was “Fair”, “Aj”, “P-yoot” and the lazy-short-version, “Fairuz”. Actually, up until today when I introduced myself to new people, they always mistaken my name with “Fai-ZU-ra”
I was like whatever…
Then when I entered the University, my parents was like,
“why did your high school friends called you all these weird nicknames?”
I explained to them it wasn’t me, and I told them maybe I should introduced myself as “Za” to everybody in the university just to save them the trouble to come up with another crazy nickname for me.
After I told them this my parents told me the reason why they never came up with a nickname for me.
They told me that before my big brother was born, they didn’t knew the gender of the baby. [name]One[/name] day my parents saw the headline “[name]Fairuza[/name] Balk staring in Return to [name]Oz[/name]” in a newspaper and immediately they both fell in love with the name. They were hoping their first child to be a girl, but when my brother came out they had to find a different name for him. Three years later they were thrilled that they could used the name when I finally came out.
To them [name]Fairuza[/name] is a very beautiful name that stands on its own. Although it did meant “turquoise stones”, but it is also an independent character that doesn’t need any specific definition to justify the name.
My parents was like, “Why need to shorten it? We found the name for you, and your name is what you are,”
I was like bawling inside… Literally! So I stick with making everyone call me by my fullname, but then people in Universities are just as crazy as the high school kids. Some even called me “Rooza” out of no-where, and I actually have a friend that called me “[name]ZaZa[/name]” until today.
Still nickname is fun!
Actually when someone I don’t remember called me, I used my nickname to find out in which period of my life did that friend came from. LOL!
But after hearing what my parents said, I really love when people called me with just plain [name]Fairuza[/name]
I like [name]Rue[/name] or [name]Zaza[/name] best!
This is a pick for me!!
I kind of like [name]Fairy[/name] and [name]Rue[/name].
