Nickname for Genevieve

hey berry’s!

So I’m pretty set on [name]Genevieve[/name] for if we have another little girl in the future. Love it!!! Just unsure about the Nn. Would use the name in full most of the time. But would love to at least establish a “go to” Nn so I can avoid the ones I don’t particularly like. I’m a little bit concerned about that as I’m sure some people will want to shorten her name.

Nicknames I can’t or don’t want to use: [name]GiGi[/name], [name]ViVi[/name], [name]Evie[/name], [name]Genie[/name], [name]Gia[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]ViVa[/name], [name]Vieve[/name], [name]Gen[/name], [name]Genny[/name], [name]Genna[/name]

options I do like:

  1. [name]Eve[/name] - elegant and sweet

  2. [name]Neve[/name] and [name]Nevie[/name] ( pronounced Neeve and Neevie). - cute, spunky, and different. Does it remind you of the name Neveah?

  3. [name]Neve[/name] and [name]Nevie[/name] (pronounced Nehv adn Nehv EE) - like Neve Campbell

  4. [name]Eva[/name] - just added this one…too much of a stretch?

Thanks!

Oh and do the nn’s neve and nevie remind you too much of the name neveah?

I think they are spunky and just a little bit different. I like that they are very nicknamey. Especially since I will be calling her by her full name most of the time anyway. But eve is really nice too. Just doesn’t roll of the tongue as easily as the others do for me. Thanks again!

I don’t think they remind me of [name]Neveah[/name] at all. I adore the name [name]Genevieve[/name] it’s one of my favourites! I love the nn [name]Neve[/name] because it’s the easier spelling of the Irish name [name]Niamh[/name]. I also think [name]Eve[/name] is really cute too.

Yay! [name]Glad[/name] to see that u like [name]Neve[/name]. I sometimes feel it sounds made up but it is an actual Irish name ( just different spelling). [name]Do[/name] u say it as Neeve also? [name]Glad[/name] it doesn’t remind u of [name]Neveah[/name]! And yeah, I also really like [name]Eve[/name] too. Hmmm. Oh and glad to see that u like the full name [name]Genevieve[/name] as well. I am sooo in love with this name. Haha. I think it’s beautiful.

Nevie & [name]Neva[/name] reminds me of [name]Neveah[/name], but not in a bad way. I really like the ideas of Nevie and [name]Neva[/name].

I’d never thought of [name]Neve[/name] as a nn for [name]Genevieve[/name]. I think it’s brilliant!

I’m so glad you posted this!!! [name]Genevieve[/name] is on our short list, and everyone seems to love it. However, I have the same concerns that you do. I don’t like [name]Gen[/name] and [name]Genny[/name] because of associations, so that’s been holding me back from being all for the name. I think your options of [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Neve[/name] are great ones (I won’t steal them though). They are both beautiful and uncommon without being weird or made-up.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Eve[/name]! I would vote for that, but if you go for [name]Eve[/name], I think others would call her [name]Evie[/name], too–since they’re so close. I also love [name]Genevieve[/name] nn [name]Niamh[/name]/[name]Neve[/name]. I prefer the [name]Niamh[/name] spelling, personally.

Good luck!

My four-year old is [name]Genevieve[/name] nns [name]Neve[/name] (Nehv) and Nevie ( Nehv EE). We had similar reservations about the intuitive nns and thankfully have never had a problem. I think she has been called [name]Genny[/name] once by a stranger. We have had a very positive response overall to her name/nn. And most importantly, my daughter loves her name.

thanks so much! What great feedback :).

@nmp233 - I also love the nn [name]Neve[/name] (Nehv) and Nevie (Nehv EE). I’ll consider those too. [name]Glad[/name] to hear you get positive responses on her name/nn as well as not getting the [name]Gen[/name] nn’s. I worry that when I introduce her people are automatically going to call her [name]Gen[/name] or [name]Genny[/name]…or even [name]Genna[/name]. But I’m glad to hear that that hasn’t been the case for you. Thank you for that info!

@ash - yeah, she might get called evie if I nickname her eve. Something to think about for sure.

@k8d - I know right? Isn’t the full name so beautiful!! I love love love it. What nn’s are you thinking of going with?

@eskay and shaymin2 - thank you!!!

I vote for [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Evie[/name]

yeah, the Eve/Evie combo would be nice but I would like to stay away from Evie if I can. Plus, I hear Evie a lot these days. It is cute though. I think either Eve or Neve/Nevie would be my pick. The Eve/Nevie combo might get confusing. How do you berry’s like Neve/Nevie pronounced?

So I think I’m liking [name]Neve[/name] and Nevie best. I think if I went with [name]Eve[/name] she would get called [name]Evie[/name] as well. It’s cute but I hear it around my neighborhood a lot.

Oh, and just found out Neve/Nevie means “snow/snowy” Love names/nn’s that are connected with nature!

I love [name]Genevieve[/name]! [name]Neve[/name] (pronounced Nehv) is my favorite for a nn, or how about [name]Eva[/name]?

yeah, I really like [name]Eva[/name], I added that to one of the nn options :). I’m still leaning a bit towards the [name]Neve[/name]/Nevie combo pronunced Neeve and Neevie or Nehv Nehv EE…

We came to [name]Genevieve[/name] by working backwards. I love the nn [name]Evie[/name], and I love the name [name]Eve[/name]. However, [name]Eve[/name] isn’t a possibility for us because we have a short, one syllable last name, so [name]Eve[/name] would be far too choppy. I also wanted her to have the use of a longer name. When I found [name]Genevieve[/name], it seemed to fit perfectly. [name]Vivi[/name] would be our other option. That’s another nice thing about the name - there are so many nn possibilities.

Dear Bellarina

I have the feeling that you’re not going to like what I’m about to say, I only hope that you’re gonna read the whole thing.
I’m the mom of two daughters, both have long names (4 syllables) that have many nicknames. Some of which I dislike, just like you.
I had to make my peace with ALL the nicknames, because once the child is out in the world (daycare, kindergarten, school), it will be totally beyond your control which nicknames people will choose for her, And even: which nickname SHE will choose for herself.
(My eldest at 4 simply stated how she wished to be called and it was NOT at all what I liked!)
Babysitters, nannies, classmates and friends, even your own relatives will call her the most obvious, and sometimes the most hated nickname.
Like poor [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Taylor[/name], who hated [name]Liz[/name] with a passion, and her biography even is titled “[name]Liz[/name]”.

My suggestion: either choose a name whose obvious nicknames you can live with or choose a name that is hard to nickname (my friend [name]Keira[/name] has no such issues, ever). Names are “packages” with nicknames and if you feel this strong about this issue, maybe [name]Genevieve[/name] is not the right name to give your baby.

Otherwise, you’ll spend the next few years perpetually frustrated.

I hope this helps.

expatb - yeah, I 100% agree with you. [name]Love[/name] the name genevieve but…I think I need to let it go :(. I have major issues with the most common nicknames, and even the uncommon ones. Thank you for your advice!!!

[name]Just[/name] my two cents - my daughter’s name is [name]Genevieve[/name] and we call her [name]Evie[/name] right now because its adorable on a baby (and truthfully I never heard anyone around here with that nickname, so I guess I’m surprised to here its so popular elsewhere). We plan on calling her [name]Eve[/name] later, its divine (I also like your idea of [name]Neve[/name] like [name]Neve[/name] [name]Campbell[/name] too!).

No one has called her anything but what we call her, which is [name]Genevieve[/name] and [name]Evie[/name]. Most call her by her full name, and I have known other [name]Genevieve[/name]'s that went by their full name and no one ever called them a nickname. There may be an outlier, but for the most part people are respectful of what you want her to be called, and later what she wants to be called. My own name, [name]Erin[/name], has no nicknames and I always wished for a more versatile name…

I vote for eve/evie
