Fell in love with the name Maaseiah. It’s Hebrew and means “work of the Lord.” Such a beautiful name but I would love to come up with a nickname for it. Any thoughts? Also, do you prefer the traditional spelling Maaseiah with the double a or would it be better as Maseiah without the a?
Aww, that’s pretty! I’ve seen the nn Massie.
You should be careful though, becuase some might read that as mah - SY - uh (sy as in eye), spelled as [name_u]Messiah[/name_u]. [name_u]Messiah[/name_u] is a very controversial name that could be seen as offensive. Maaseiah is cute.
Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree, I think Maaseiah is a good alternative to [name_u]Messiah[/name_u]. Maybe the additional A would help to differentiate. Also, Maaseiah is gender neutral but I’m think of using it for a boy - any masculine nickname ideas?
I looked up the Hebrew spelling of it to know for sure how to pronounce it…
the Hebrew says mah ah say yah
Whenever there are two vowels together in a hebrew word, they are both pronounced. That’s not to say you can’t Anglicize it. Aaron is A hah roan in Hebrew but is most often heard in the US as two syllables.
So, what is the pronunciation of this name that you fell in love with?
and as for nicknames, you can get pretty creative… I knew a guy named Nehemiah (the American pronunciation) and he went by Nehm which was pronounced “Neem”. I liked it. The prophet Micah is short for the name Micaiyah. So whatever name you like that you can derive from Maaseiah will work well.
