I’ve posted about this name before - still haven’t settled on a spelling but leaning towards [name_f]Rayzel[/name_f] / Reizal / Rayzle / etc. (something with a Z and L). Anyway, I’ve been thinking about nicknames. I don’t like [name_u]Ray[/name_u] much, so would like to find another that would hopefully keep people from automatically shortening to that? [name_u]Or[/name_u] would she still get called [name_u]Ray[/name_u], do you think? It’s not terrible but I don’t like it much.
Name pronounced “RAY-zal” or “RAY-sell”
Some I’ve come up with:
Rayzie
Ayzie
Ayza
[name_f]Zali[/name_f] (Zolly)
[name_f]Zaylie[/name_f]
Appreciate ideas and thoughts! Thanks!
I think Ray/Rae may not be entirely avoidable. You can call her something else at home, but her friends would probably call her [name_u]Ray[/name_u] once in a while. That, Rayz, and [name_m]Zel[/name_m] are the most intuitive nicknames, so the ones she’d most likely get called.
Zellie is a pretty cute nickname that could stick easily enough, and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Raya[/name_f] are some other options.
[name_f]Raya[/name_f]
[name_f]Zazie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zella[/name_f]
[name_f]Rez[/name_f]
I think [name_u]Ray[/name_u] is nearly inevitable tbh but Rayzie would also be pretty intuitive; still, I think people would go from Rayzie to [name_u]Ray[/name_u] eventually
I think the [name_f]Rayzel[/name_f] and Rayzle spellings might encourage the nickname [name_u]Ray[/name_u] more than Reizal, of the options you’re looking at, because it’s right there in the spelling. I think she may be called “Ray” audibly no matter how you spell it (like “hey [name_u]Ray[/name_u], pass me that pencil”) but with the Reizal spelling (or [name_f]Raizel[/name_f] if you like that?) I think it will be less likely that anybody would “officially” call her [name_u]Ray[/name_u].
I think [name_f]Zali[/name_f] is a cute nickname! I also like the previous suggestion of [name_m]Zel[/name_m].
I knew a [name_f]Raizel[/name_f] and she never got her name shortened. Taking out the y might minimize risk of people shortening it to [name_u]Ray[/name_u]. I think it would be more likely shortened to Raiz then [name_u]Rai[/name_u]. Those other nicknames you mentioned could definitely work if you implemented it and had people call her that.
some examples
- azzie / azzy
- zaylie (fav from your list)
- zella
- zellie
- rayza
I love [name_f]Raizel[/name_f]. Raiz, [name_f]Roz[/name_f], [name_m]Zell[/name_m] would be my favorite nicknames. I know a Raisel who goes by [name_u]Risa[/name_u].
