Hey lovelies! [name_m]How[/name_m] are you all today?
So, my SO and I have [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] as a most definite choice for a little girl. However, I just realized that I don’t have a NN for it, or even know of one!
All of our other more elaborate or unique girls’ names have NNs…
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - [name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] - [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] - [name_f]Alexia[/name_f]
I really love [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], but it is a mouthful! What do you think… is there a sweet shortening that we could use?? Out of the box ideas are welcome!
My favorite girl names on your sig don’t really lend themselves to nicknames (1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] 2. [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] Autumsn), which is fine, and they might get pet names down the road based on some other attribute or when a younger relative can’t pronounce it. My friend [name_f]Erin[/name_f] was named purposefully with an aim to avoid nicknames, but my daughter calls her [name_f]Anya[/name_f] anyway and that stuck.
I have only known one [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] and everyone shortened her name to Shiv (whether she liked this nn or not I couldn’t say - I’m not really a fan).
It’s definitely a tough one. Some ideas (although some are a big stretch):
Shiv
Shivy
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
V (Vee)
[name_f]Vivi[/name_f] (Vee-vee)
Vo
[name_f]Vonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_u]Sonny[/name_u]
[name_u]Sunny[/name_u]
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!
I have to agree - Shiv is a very harsh NN to take from such a lovely name
My picks from your suggestions would be [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] or [name_f]Vonnie[/name_f]. I think they are both really cute.
Haha. Yes, we have discovered that we like a lot of names that don’t really have shortenings.
This is true. That is what happened to me - there is no usual shortening for my name, so I have just gained a collection of various NNs over the years (some make sense, some don’t lol!) I think that is a nice thing, in one way, as it is more personal. If we used this name for a younger sibling, the older ones would no doubt dub her something short and sweet anyway.
The [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] I know gets called [name_m]Von[/name_m]. I can’t really see [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] working since when it’s pronounced there’s no B.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] I’m sorry if this is a bit too late but my name is [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] and my friends call me Shav it is a quick and easy solution to any nickname troubles, I have found that [name_f]Vonnie[/name_f] and V never really seem to stick and it got a bit weird as I got older because it sounded more like very much a children’s name but I did love it. I hope you find what you’re looking for xx
