I really like [name]Gilly[/name] as a nickname for [name]Gillian[/name], but with a hard G. Is this a bad idea and what do you think of [name]Gillian[/name] with a hard G? [name]Do[/name] you like the name either way? Any comments are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
I like [name]Gillian[/name]/[name]Jillian[/name] with the soft G sound and have a [name]Gillian[/name] nn [name]Gilly[/name] at the daycare (with a J sound) but i really dislike it with the hard G sound. [name]Gill[/name]-y and [name]Gill[/name]-ee-an sound like fish to me.
I definately like [name]Jillian[/name]/[name]Gillian[/name] with the soft J. [name]Gillian/name reminds me of Gilligans Island for some strange reason(I haven’t even seen that show!)
Oh, I can’t help but think of the SNL skits. They ruin it for me. [name]Gillian[/name] with a j is inevitable, but if you explain it to people, it can be learned of course. I think [name]Jillian[/name] though, is pretty and sophisticated. I am friends with two sisters who are British, and their names are [name]Jillian[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]. Very nice sibset, in my opinion.
Good luck!
It’s also that dreadful sketch on SNL.
I agree with @dantea [name]Gilly[/name] and [name]Gillian[/name] with a hard G remind me of gills and fish. Or Gilligan’s Island as @marinadancel17 pointed out.
I actually prefer [name]Gillian[/name] to [name]Jillian[/name] both soft. (Probably because I have a friend named [name]Gillian[/name] and I’m not huge on J names.)
I like [name]Gilly[/name], even as a name on its own or as a nickname for [name]Gillian[/name]. When I hear the name though I automatically think of [name]Gilly[/name] in the ‘A Song Of Ice and [name]Fire[/name]’ series or for you TV viewers, ‘Game of Thrones’. Much of her story lines are in the later books and she has only been in a couple of episodes of the show so far but [name]Gilly[/name] is one of the bravest characters in my opinion, despite the fact that she had a son with her father/husband.
[name]Don[/name]'t love the name, but here’s a positive association: the book The Great [name]Gilly[/name] Hopkins!
