[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries,
[name_f]My[/name_f] sister in law is pregnant and this has prompted my OH and I to consider baby names for when we begin TTC (in the not-too-distant future). Anyway, we both really like the name [name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m] (gair-hard). I know it’s pretty out-there but I find it has a strong, clunky charm that I love. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner is [name_m]German[/name_m] and it was his grandfather’s name so it has strong familial ties as well.
I’m not readily interested in popular names and we live in an area of Australia that’s multicultural and full of babies with strange and wonderful names. I’d have almost no qualms with lumping a baby boy with [name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m] IF it had a nickname he could opt for incase the full name is too much for him, but I can’t think of one!
OH thinks “G.H” would work fine but I’m sceptical, I hate [name_u]Gerry[/name_u]/[name_u]Jerry[/name_u] and grandfather [name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m] got Gerdy which may have worked in Germany but I’m afraid won’t translate here as it’s too close to [name_f]Gertie[/name_f].
I was hoping the creative berries out there might have nn options that I hadn’t considered!
[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!
[name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m]:
I think Gerdy would be absolutely fine, and really sweet (there aren’t really any [name_f]Gertie[/name_f]'s around), but if it is a definite no, maybe:
[name_u]Gale[/name_u], [name_m]Geo[/name_m], [name_m]Garth[/name_m], [name_m]Gage[/name_m], G / [name_m]Gee[/name_m], [name_m]Ged[/name_m] / [name_m]Jed[/name_m], [name_u]Gene[/name_u], [name_m]Gib[/name_m], [name_m]Giff[/name_m], [name_u]Gerd[/name_u], [name_m]Gram[/name_m], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], [name_m]Gyle[/name_m], [name_m]Guy[/name_m].
Some of them are a bit of a stretch, but I think it could work.
Phew! I’m glad you think so many posssible names would be appropriate for [name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m], particularly [name_m]Garth[/name_m], [name_m]Gage[/name_m] and [name_m]Gram[/name_m].
Maybe I was a little rushed in dismissing Gerdy too.
Thanks for the feedback! Very reassuring!
Cool name! [name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_m]Hardy[/name_m]
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]Gair[/name_m]
I like [name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m]! I think it’s quite handsome for a little boy and as a man. I agree that [name_m]Gage[/name_m], [name_u]Gus[/name_u], and [name_m]Harry[/name_m] are all possible nicknames. You could also go with [name_u]Gary[/name_u] or [name_m]Hart[/name_m] too [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m]: [name_u]Grey[/name_u]/[name_u]Gray[/name_u], [name_m]Gerald[/name_m], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], [name_u]Gary[/name_u], or maybe even just G.
[name_m]Gerhardt[/name_m] is really cool! I love that it honours your husband’s father. Gerdy and [name_m]Gee[/name_m] are logical and fun.
Other ideas: Gart, [name_m]Ged[/name_m], Geddy or Getty. I think GH is a little clunky, different initials - GD, GB, GT, or GP - might work better.
