Hey everyone! I’m a long-time lurker and have finally decided to post because I was wondering if you all could give me some advice on something I’ve been thinking about lately.
I’ve never gone by anything other than my given first name. The name itself is okay, but there’s a lot of aggravation that goes along with it. It’s one of the many variations of [name_f]Christina[/name_f], so every time I introduce myself, I get called [name_f]Kristen[/name_f], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], [name_f]Kristy[/name_f], etc. I’ve always been a pretty shy person, so having to repeat myself multiple times frustrates me and I would prefer to have a more straightforward name that people are less likely to misunderstand. I don’t want to change my name, just maybe start going by a nickname (though I’m not completely sure if I will or not… just brainstorming for now). I’m hopefully going to be starting college in the fall, and I think that would be a good time to start.
So, I recently realized that [name_u]Kit[/name_u], which I adore, could be a nickname for my name, and I’m so mad at myself for not realizing it sooner! But, even though it’s such a simple name, I wonder if I would still be met with confusion when introducing myself. I live in the US, so it’s definitely not a common name here, but maybe [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Harington’s popularity would help. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too unusual for an American girl (insert joke about [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Kittredge)?
Another possibility: my first and middle initials are KT, so I’ve also considered [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. This would obviously be the best choice if I want something uncomplicated, but I prefer [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and I’m wondering if that would be too much of a stretch. I don’t hate [name_f]Katie[/name_f], though. KT itself might be cool for online use, but probably not in real life…
I’m not a fan of my middle name, so going by that isn’t an option.
Since I’ve never gone by anything different, the thought of doing so now is kind of weird to me, so again I’m not yet sure if I’ll be able to commit to it but I have been thinking about it a lot. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanting to get some opinions. Any and all thoughts are appreciated!
