[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! Right now I’m very obsessed with an unusual boys name: Hush.
I feel like it may*not be okay as a plain first name, but I cannot find a name that I could use Hush as a nickname. Any ideas for a longer version? Or would it be okay as a name as it is Thank you!
Hmm that is unusual for a first, and I’m not a fan of it for one, but it would definitely make a good and unique nickname!
Most common approach would be names beginning with H:
Henry
Hugo
Harrison
Hudson - Particularly like this one, the ‘hu’ beginning with a later ‘s’ sound really connects it with Hush more than any other name I could think of.
Harvey
Or you could also pair an ‘H’ first name with a ‘Sh’ middle:
Shepherd
Sherlock - Such a cool middle name!
Shea/Shay
Sheldon
Also decided to do a quick search on ‘behindthename.com’ for any names meaning quiet/silent/peace and found these:
Solomon - derived from Hebrew word meaning peace.
Pax - ‘peace’ in Latin.
Frederick - English form of Germanic name meaning ‘peaceful ruler’.
Or you could absolutely use Hush as a middle name - I’m a fan of having something creative in the middle but still a first that is socially usable in most cases.
Side note: This was really fun to think up some names Hope I sparked some ideas!
My first thought has [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is a good suggestion. [name_m]Huxley[/name_m]? [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]? Heneage?
I’m surprised [name_m]Humphrey[/name_m] hasn’t been suggested.
Maybe something beginning with H and ending in -us? [name_m]Horatius[/name_m], [name_m]Hesperus[/name_m], [name_m]Hieronymous[/name_m], [name_m]Horus[/name_m], [name_m]Hermes[/name_m]/[name_m]Hermus[/name_m], [name_m]Harris[/name_m], [name_m]Hercules[/name_m], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] . . .
[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] was the first thing that came to my mind. But I think Hush could be used as a nickname for anything.
Huck [name_u]Jo[/name_u]shua came to mind, but I think really any Hu- name could work.
There are some really great suggestions on here to get Hush aa a nn. I see how it could be cute but I am also a little uneasy with the idea of calling a child something that doubles as an instruction to be quiet or not express yourself. Maybe that’s just me!
This, especially since it’s not a naturally occurring nickname. A more pleasant alternative might be Hutch, short for [name_m]Hutchings[/name_m] or Hutcherson.
