I’m back with a name from our joint list. [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] was a top contender when we were naming our son. Now it would probably be my second or third choice from the names we didn’t use. Nicknames are once again the main thing holding me back.

I don’t think [name_m]Douglas[/name_m] needs a nickname but I’m motivated to find one we both enjoy since our son goes by the shortened form of his name and it’s fun to have.

[name_m]Doug[/name_m] and [name_m]Dougie[/name_m] don’t hold much appeal. I’ve had [name_m]Gus[/name_m] and [name_f]Dusty[/name_f] as nicknames in the past but both have lost some shine. I’m drawn to vintage and traditional styles but I’m open to all ideas.

So, what other nickname ideas can you think up for [name_m]Douglas[/name_m]? All suggestions welcome.

Bonus: If you had a son named [name_m]Douglas[/name_m], what nickname would you choose?
[name_m]Douglas[/name_m] is so warm & handsome! I love the nickname [name_m]Gus[/name_m], that’s probably what I would use if I had a son called [name_m]Douglas[/name_m].

Apologies for the stretchiness of some of these: [name_f][/name_f]Ducky [name_f][/name_f]Dully / [name_m]Sully[/name_m] / Gully [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Doss[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dawsey[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]Dollis / [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dodge[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lassie[/name_f] / [name_m]Lad[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Doc[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dorsey[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dell[/name_m]
I think it is safer not to pick a name if you don’t really like the traditional shortened forms. [name_f][/name_f]I wouldn’t pick [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as I dislike [name_f]Liz[/name_f], for example. With the best will in the world, we can try to use an alternative, like [name_m]Gus[/name_m], (that might work) but more often than not, people will refer to him as [name_m]Doug[/name_m]. If that isn’t going to be a big deal as he gets older, by all means choose [name_m]Douglas[/name_m], nickname him [name_m]Gus[/name_m], and it might just stick. But do be prepared to accept he might become a [name_m]Doug[/name_m] eventually, anyway.
@seawillow[name_f][/name_f] I love your creativity. Thank you for all of your ideas. [name_f]Dally[/name_f] might have potential and I’m thinking about Uggie or Oggie based on your suggestion of [name_m]Auggie[/name_m]. Thanks again!

@daisydarcy[name_f][/name_f] Thank you for replying! I like a lot of your ideas. [name_m]Dawsey[/name_m] and [name_m]Dodge[/name_m] are the stand-outs for me. I’ll definitely be giving them some more thought. Ducky and [name_m]Doc[/name_m] are such fun ideas, although probably not for us.

@Estrela[name_f][/name_f] These are all interesting ideas, especially Glass. Thank you for your suggestions!

@Greyblue[name_f][/name_f] Thank you for replying! I love your suggestion of [name_m]Dash[/name_m]. I’m also interested in [name_m]Dodge[/name_m]. I like the idea of [name_m]Dooley[/name_m] but more for someone else.

@DCAT[name_f][/name_f] I tend to agree. It’s an important consideration for any choice with obvious nicknames.
I would personally nickname a ‘Douglas’, [name_m]Dougie[/name_m], but let’s brainstorm some new ones:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Dougal[/name_m], [name_m]Duke[/name_m], [name_m]Ace[/name_m], [name_m]Dash[/name_m], [name_m]Gus[/name_m], Dougster, Dougzilla, Glazer [name_f][/name_f]If he has a middle name beginning with J then the nickname DJ.
@atomicginge[name_f][/name_f] Thanks for commenting! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband also likes [name_m]Dougie[/name_m] but I’m not quite convinced. [name_m]Duke[/name_m] and [name_m]Ace[/name_m] are interesting ideas. I also like [name_m]Dash[/name_m].
