Is Della a stretch for Elodie? I also have Lottie/Loddie and Lydie.
@WildroseofJuillet [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is beautiful! I actually think [name_f]Della[/name_f] works really well since you can pull the d, e, and l from the full name! I also think [name_f]Lo[/name_f] would be adorable. [name_f]Elle[/name_f] would work well too!
I hope this helps!
I think [name_f]Della[/name_f] could work (kind of like [name_f]Nell[/name_f] from Helena?)
I think that it is the point off too stretchy where it feels like it is trying too hard. [name_u]Dell[/name_u] might work, but not [name_f]Della[/name_f] as where does the a sound come from?
I think [name_f]Della[/name_f] is a stretch but can work! I always liked [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], and [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] as nicknames for her too (besides the obvious Ella). I had a car a while back I named [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lydie[/name_f], I especially think she’s lovely (for someone else, that car was horrible and leaves rotten memories for me hahahaha). I also think you could do [name_f]Dia[/name_f] or even as a stretch Leah/Leo.
I think anything goes at home but Della would be hard to catch on with your wider social circles.
It’s the ‘a’ ending that takes it a step far. Dell and Dellie would work a bit better. Della reads as a separate name for me just as Emma does for Emily.
Loddie and Lydie are great ideas by the way. Lottie is a little surprising on paper but I get that the sound is very similar to Loddie.
I’ll suggest Didi, Els and Edie.
Not necessarily but I’d just consider [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] etc or [name_f]Della[/name_f] alone if I really liked [name_f]Della[/name_f]. I find Elo, [name_f]Dee[/name_f] [name_f]Dee[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] and [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] to be more intuitive in addition the ones you already have + the [name_f]Elle[/name_f] nicknames.
One of my best friends has a daughter named [name_f]Elody[/name_f] . She goes by [name_f]Elle[/name_f] 90 percent of the time but I don’t think [name_f]Della[/name_f] is a stretch at all !
Thanks everyone! So many great ideas! Funny thing is I always have these expectations on what the nicknames will be but they never stick
[name_u]Eddie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lo[/name_f] came to mind for me first!
And I love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] for her, too!
I think [name_f]Della[/name_f] would work! It has some of the same sounds, just rearranged. It may not be the most intuitive nn for [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], but I don’t see why not. I mean [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] is a nn for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] so go for it.
That’s so true! [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] has nothing in common with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] lol I’d love to know how someone came up with that
I have this one! [name_f]My[/name_f] sister is an [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], and has always been Elo. If you are thinking in a slightly more unique way I find [name_m]Odie[/name_m] very cute
