[name_f]My[/name_f] husband recently mentioned that sometimes he tries to picture our son with some of the names we didn’t use – [name_m]Stanley[/name_m] in particular. [name_m]Stanley[/name_m] was my husband’s first or second choice when we were expecting our son but for me it was nearer to the bottom of our list so it was never a true contender.

I like [name_m]Stanley[/name_m] in full but I’m not keen on [name_m]Stan[/name_m]. [name_m]Lee[/name_m] doesn’t particularly appeal either. I’ve been thinking if there was an alternative nickname I liked for [name_m]Stanley[/name_m], perhaps it would be higher on the list if we ever had another son.
[name_f][/name_f]
Ideally, it wouldn’t be totally out of place with a vintage or traditional naming style. Something like [name_m]Sonny[/name_m] – alas that’s already had a hard no.
[name_f][/name_f]
So, what other nickname ideas can you think up for [name_m]Stanley[/name_m]? All suggestions welcome.
[name_f][/name_f]
Bonus: If you had a son named [name_m]Stanley[/name_m], what nickname would you choose?
Perhaps [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], [name_m]Nat[/name_m], or [name_m]Sandy[/name_m]? Stanley’s a hard one to nickname without [name_m]Stan[/name_m] and [name_m]Lee[/name_m]! I hope you can find something that suits.
[name_f][/name_f]
I think I’d personally go with [name_m]Lenny[/name_m].
If I had a [name_m]Stanley[/name_m], I’d opt for the nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] I’m admittedly not a huge [name_m]Stanley[/name_m] fan, but I am[name_f][/name_f] a big [name_m]Leo[/name_m] fan, so it would be a nice compromise for me. [name_f][/name_f] Besides him, maybe:
[name_f][/name_f]
Sol/Sal [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tanner[/name_m] (don’t really like [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] either but it works I think) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Santi[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lanny[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]Staley [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sage[/name_f] (would probably only do with a G middle)
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] is definitely my favorite, but I do like [name_f]Sage[/name_f] & [name_m]Sal[/name_m] quite a bit too!
[name_f][/name_f]
ETA: [name_f][/name_f] Ohhh, [name_f]Sasha[/name_f] is brilliant!
@seawillow Thanks for your reply. Those are great suggestions and yet they seem a little too removed from Stanley. It’s a tricky one!
Lenny has just made me think of Len which seems more fitting somehow. I’ll definitely think on it. Thanks again!
@Greyblue Thanks for responding. Stee and Sly are new ideas to me. Sly could grow on me. You’ve also made me think of Sy which I might like even more. So thank you!
@ashthedreamer Thanks for your reply. I think Leo would work better for me if it wasn’t already so popular as a stand-alone name. It’s 4# in Australia. But you’ve got me thinking of the ‘o’ sound now… Teo, Leno, Loy etc. Lots of possibilities.
Santi and Staley are new to me. Santi has made me think of Ant! That’s a cool one. Thank you for the inspiration!
@Maria_Bennett Thanks for your reply. Lenny and Leo have great appeal and an ‘O’ initial makes Leo a lot more feasible.
@Nessie4 Thanks for responding. Sunny is such a sweet nickname! I probably wouldn’t have considered this spelling until you mentioned it. Thanks!
