Which shortened version of [name_u]Elias[/name_u] would you use?
Eli- would this be mispronounced as [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as in the girls name??
[name_m]Ely[/name_m] - does this just look awkward??
- Eli
- Ely

Eli is familiar so it wouldn’t be mispronounced, but [name_m]Ely[/name_m] might because it’s unusual and -y ending is often pronounced as -ie.
I agree
Oh yes that’s true see this is why it’s always good to get a second option lol.
I like both options, but in the UK there is a place called [name_m]Ely[/name_m] which is pronounced ‘Ee-lee’ which is one mispronunciation you might get!
I’d go with [name_u]Eli[/name_u].
Ely (EE-lee) is a town near Cambridge so that’s the pronunciation I instinctively use for that spelling.
For me they sound like
[name_u]Eli[/name_u] = E-lye
[name_m]Ely[/name_m] = [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
Eli is the most familiar and I think most people would be able to pn it
