Nickname too farfetched?

I really love the name [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f], but I don’t like the nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] I really love the nickname [name_f]Della[/name_f] though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] y’all think [name_f]Della[/name_f] is too farfetched of a nickname for [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]?

I think it works! [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is unfortunately quite an obvious nickname for [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] (perhaps something to consider if you really[name_f][/name_f] don’t like it), but I really like [name_f]Della[/name_f] too and it isn’t too far-fetched for me.

just echoing the previous poster! it feels natural to me, but since [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is right there and more intuitive, there’s a possibility she might decide she wants to go by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] at some point, so I would suggest considering if that would be a dealbreaker for you.

It works in the same way that [name_f]Betty[/name_f] works for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: totally makes sense but you can’t stop the kid/their future friends and partners calling them [name_f]Liz[/name_f].

I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch at all! [name_f][/name_f] I also love [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] and would use [name_f]Della[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f] myself; [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is lovely but I can’t envision me with a daughter who has the name. :woman_shrugging:t3:

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought when I see [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is actually [name_f]Magda[/name_f], not [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]!

I think [name_f]Della[/name_f] is super sweet and beautiful and not at all farfetched though! The sound is there and I think, while its not the most intuitive nickname, it totally works!

I think you could use [name_f]Della[/name_f] and it would make sense, but I wouldn’t expect others to necessarily find it intuitive, ya know? I do think most people, should they shorten it, would resort to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Lena[/name_f].
