Nicknames for Annabel...

We’ve decided on the name [name]Annabel[/name] and I’ve been thinking about possible nicknames. Any suggestions (besides the obvious [name]Annie[/name], [name]Anne[/name], [name]Bell[/name], etc).

I’ve seen [name]Nell[/name]/[name]Nelly[/name], [name]Abby[/name], [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name]. Are these too much of a stretch?

I love [name]Annabel[/name]! My choice for a nickname would be [name]Annie[/name]/[name]Anna[/name], but I actually really like all of them. I don’t think [name]Nell[/name], [name]Abby[/name], or [name]Ellie[/name] are too much of a stretch. Lots of nickname options for this one!

[name]Annabel[/name] is a great name. I like the [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Anna[/name] option for nicknames–but recently met an [name]Annabel[/name] who’s called [name]Nancie[/name]. Thought it was frumpy at first, but it’s really growing on me.

Good luck.

My name is [name]Annabel[/name] and the only nickname I was ever called was babybell by my family.

Now in my 20s and I am still called babybell by my aunts and grandmother

I think [name]Nell[/name] is a bit of a stretch for [name]Annabel[/name] as is [name]Nancy[/name]. [name]Nancy[/name] is a great stand alone name so I would just use it in a first name spot instead of as a nickname.

[name]Abby[/name] is a bit less of a stretch but my sister’s name is [name]Abigail[/name] and goes by [name]Abby[/name] so that is really all I can picture that nickname with.

Actually, the name [name]Nancy[/name] derives from the name [name]Anne[/name], so it’s not that much of a stretch for it to be a nickname for [name]Annabel[/name]. In fact, I was going to suggest the nickname [name]Nan[/name]. The nickname [name]Nan[/name] came from [name]Anne[/name], because in the old days a parent would introduce his or her children as “Mine [name]Edward[/name], or my [name]Anne[/name],” and because the consonant of the previous word blends into the vowel of the next word, it sounds like “My Nedward, my [name]Nan[/name],” which is how you get the nickname [name]Ned[/name] for [name]Edward[/name], and [name]Nan[/name] for [name]Anne[/name] (which eventually evolved into [name]Nancy[/name]). [name]Ann/name, [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], and [name]Nan/name all mean “[name]Grace[/name],” so [name]Grace[/name] could be a nickname as well.
