I don’t count a lot of flower names ([name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], etc) as nicknames, or names that have become established on their own ([name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], etc).
What nicknames do you think can standalone? Are there any favourites you have?
[name_f]Lulu[/name_f] is beyond cute, I like it. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nicknames are [name_f]Essie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Franny[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f] and [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like any of these?
[name_f]Callie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Coco[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Emme[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Posy[/name_f]/[name_f]Posey[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] (and [name_f]Katie[/name_f]), [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] all fit in this category I think
@handsallover - [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] are gorgeous, haha. [name_f]Essie[/name_f]'s adorable too, but I’m not sure on it. Thank you
@prettygirl - ooh, [name_f]Callie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Posy[/name_f], and [name_f]Katie[/name_f] are lovely
A lot of the names you listed are among my favorite nicknames. Most could stand alone, but one of my siblings is having a [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] soon and the family reaction has been … not so positive (NEVER to the parents, of course). I almost prefer just [name_u]Lou[/name_u], oddly enough? But I’d never be able to pass up the awesome full names [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].
That said I also like the nicknames:
[name_f]Lula[/name_f] (the A makes all the difference to me)
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] / [name_f]Tessie[/name_f]
[name_f]Peggy[/name_f]
[name_f]Bess[/name_f]
[name_u]Kaye[/name_u]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_u]Sunny[/name_u]
[name_f]Meg[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Caddie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]
[name_f]Francie[/name_f]
[name_u]Dell[/name_u]
[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]
[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]
Out of these already mentioned, [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] all feel like full names, although technically originated as nicknames. I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] to [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but not sure if these count as they are not only nicknames but also [name_m]French[/name_m] variations.
@isoleith - haha, I have [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] on my list, so I may use it for them, or on it’s own. I love your suggestions of [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
@polina - I would class names like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as [name_m]French[/name_m] variations of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] rather than as nicknames, but I really like [name_f]Lena[/name_f] from what you’ve suggested, it’s a family name for me (my great great grandmother was [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]), so that boosts it a bit higher on my list too.
