Can anyone think of any nicknames for [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m] that make it sound a bit more familiar to western ears?
My DS1s name is Zakariya which is easily shortened to [name_m]Zak[/name_m]. Me and hubs are still in negotiations for names for DS2 (due any day now).
We’ve thought of Ekrem ‘[name_u]Remy[/name_u]’, Kerem ‘[name_u]Kerry[/name_u]’ & our long time fav Emre ‘[name_u]Rey[/name_u]’. Now Im loving [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m] as a possibility too but am struggling for a nickname.
Is [name_m]Abe[/name_m] too much of a stretch. Though of [name_m]Bram[/name_m] but think it’s even stranger that [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m] to English ears.
[name_f]Ibby[/name_f] is cool, but not really familiar… [name_f]Immy[/name_f]? I know a little [name_m]Imre[/name_m] nicknamed [name_f]Immy[/name_f], it works well!
[name_u]Ira[/name_u] maybe?
I guess you could still use [name_u]Remi[/name_u] or [name_u]Rey[/name_u]/[name_u]Ray[/name_u].
I think [name_m]Bram[/name_m] works, and I think it’s familiar enough considering [name_m]Bram[/name_m] Stoker.
Otri - Ibro is similar to the Turkish nn for [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m], [name_m]Ibo[/name_m]. I like that a lot and think we’d naturally ending up using that as a pet name at home.
Dearest - I love the suggestion of [name_u]Ira[/name_u] I hadn’t thought of that and I think it goes really well.
Thank you guys.
If anyone else has any other suggestions they’re much appreciated
I have a hard time as well looking at names and applying them comfortably to western culture. I really like [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m] personally and the nn options I would use I wouldn’t think super scream ‘normal’ to everyone but to me I think they’re lovely. [name_u]Ib[/name_u], Ibra, [name_m]Ra[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], Himi, Brami, Bramey, I also like Emre though that feels [name_m]French[/name_m] to me I actually think that could itself be a nn for [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m]. Congrats on a second son <3
