My husband and I are TTC and we’ve been talking names. Our son is [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and he has no nicknames other than little endearments that aren’t name related (squeeks, little boy blue etc). Our daughter is [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] and there is a 9 year age gap between the two. We love how many nicknames we have for her: [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], RoRo, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] etc. She is also named after family members ([name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]).
If we have another girl, we want the same: nicknames and family connections. I love [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] as it’s my grandma’s name but I can’t stand [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as NN because I know so many! Ideas?
Family Names that could be incorporated:
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]
Bomina
[name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] can also be nicknamed Kath, [name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u] or [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]. Ryn is also a possibility. [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] strikes me as a halfway between [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and Bomina, could be nicknamed all of the above and [name_f]Rina[/name_f] or Riri.
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] - [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Viv[/name_f]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], Vee, [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]
Bomina - [name_u]Bo[/name_u], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] could be [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], [name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_f]Rina[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u] or [name_f]Cricket[/name_f].
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] could be an alternative spelling (and might honour [name_f]Claire[/name_f] too) and that could give you [name_f]Erin[/name_f] or [name_f]Cricket[/name_f].
[name_f]Karina[/name_f] could be another option to honour [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and Bomina. Nicknames could be [name_f]Karrie[/name_f], [name_f]Rina[/name_f], [name_f]Rin[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Kara[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f], [name_f]Kia[/name_f], [name_f]Kiki[/name_f]. Spelled [name_f]Carina[/name_f] it could potentially honour [name_f]Claire[/name_f] too
What about [name_u]Wren[/name_u]? I know it’s a little bit of a stretch, but I can totally see [name_u]Wren[/name_u] being short for a [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]!
Also as a [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f]/[name_f]Katelyn[/name_f], I can say I didn’t enjoy that there were so many of us, but I love that different groups of people in my life have nicknamed me certain things. My dad’s girlfriend and my grandma literally only ever call me [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f], my closest friends and most of my family migrate to calling me [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (which my now husband also spontaneously did), his grandmother found out we have the same middle and now only calls me “[name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]” as she says she thought it was “just too beautiful”, and I always just introduce myself as [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. So while it’s really common, in my experience it grows into its own thing which I love.
