Nicknames

hi, everyone would’ve had some sort of nickname growing up. My name is [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and as I was growing up I got, [name_f]Cait[/name_f], [name_f]Caity[/name_f], and just plain old [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] but, there’s one nickname of mine which stands out the most and is still used to this day by only my Grandfather which is Tootsie after the movie.

what nicknames were you given growing up? which nicknames are still used today and did/do you like those nicknames? If you had to give yourself a nickname, what would it be?

happy threading

I got [name_m]Bill[/name_m] when I was a baby due to really loving Bubble O’[name_m]Bill[/name_m] Ice-creams. My Mum calls me Madi-Moo. Then my younger sisters started calling me Moo-moo.
My family calls me Madi, which is simply the start of my full name [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. No one just takes the first part of the name when thinking of Madi though so I have to correct [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] and [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] spellings.

My younger siblings still use Moo-moo sometimes and my DH has started using it when referring to me as something other than “mum”. I think it’s cute and don’t mind Hubby or kids using it.

I got called Growler, Growl or Growlie as a kid because apparently I used to growl when I didn’t like something! I still occasionally get called Growl now
A couple of people have called me [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] over the years which I hate.

If I could nickname myself anything, it would be [name_f]Nell[/name_f] (from my middle), Nevvie or [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] (neither have anything to do with my name) and I kind of like [name_u]Scout[/name_u] too, but I don’t think I could pull any one of those names off!!

I’ve never really had any nicknames, because my name is super short and doesn’t lend itself to them. My dad called me [name_f]Aine[/name_f] Lasagna as a little girl (between ages two and four) because I’m Irish-Italian (amongst many other things!) and it’s one of the few things that rhymes with my name, but I put a stop to that pretty quickly! It still makes me giggle, though.

I’ve never really had a nickname. My name is [name_f]Eryn[/name_f] and it can’t really be shortened. I got Ez and Ezza while in school, but it was just a jokey nickname and I got called it rarely. Ez I don’t mind, but I left school 6 years ago and haven’t been called it since!

Well as a baby and young child I got [name_m]Dino[/name_m] (due to my love of dinosaurs), [name_f]Princess[/name_f] and Yoghurt Cup (because when I ate yoghurt it would go ALL over my face), plus all my mum’s usual pet names that both my brother and I got.

I used to get [name_f]Kristy[/name_f] and [name_u]Kris[/name_u] and I used to hate it so much, I didn’t so much mind [name_f]Krissy[/name_f] and I still don’t BUT when I was somewhere around 8 or 9, I loved the name [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] so I decided to smush my name and the nickname for [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] together hence [name_f]Kizzy[/name_f]. I love it, I think it’s spunky and bubbly and a great contrast to solid, serious [name_f]Kristen[/name_f].

My name is [name_f]Rosanne[/name_f], and as a child a lot of my family members called me Rósý (my Icelandic family members) or [name_f]Rosi[/name_f] (the Swedish part of my family), which is quite obvious, I suppose. My father still calls me Rósý sometimes.

My name is [name_m]Eric[/name_m], which is what I go by most of the time. Online, I sometimes use [name_u]Ricky[/name_u], part of the reason my mother named me [name_m]Eric[/name_m] was so that I could use that nickname. I’ve been called [name_m]Rick[/name_m] a few times as well. A teacher tried to call me EJ (first and middle initial), but I promptly rejected it.

90% of the time my close family calls me Moo which I’ve been known as since I was about 6/7. I also used to get [name_f]Fairy[/name_f] as a child but that has fizzled out with age.

I also get Lyds and Lyddie but mostly Moo.

[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] problems #52: You can’t shorten it.

However, someone tried to call me Appy, and I wasn’t having it. I was known as my last name as a kid for a while, and when I was really little, I was called [name_f]Mia[/name_f] by a friend because they just thought I looked like a girl from a show.

My name is [name_f]Krystal[/name_f], and my family and friends have really figured a way to come up with more than 20 nicknames for me xD (Although, I won’t be mentioning them all).

The most common one is obviously [name_f]Kristy[/name_f] (this is what the people that aren’t really close to me call me by).
My mom calls me [name_u]Kris[/name_u], Cristalito (which is the diminutive of crystal in Spanish), Talo, and Tali/ Tally.
My grandma calls me [name_u]Tal[/name_u], but I don’t really like it much.
One of my cousins calls me Tititi (which would be pronounced like tea 3 times), I don’t really know why, but she has called me this ever since I can remember.
Two of my uncles call me [name_f]Cristalina[/name_f], which I think is quite cute.
In school everyone calls me [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], which is a nickname I chose for myself.
And my best friends call me all sorts of crazy things and most don’t have any connection to my name.

I guess my favorites would be [name_u]Kris[/name_u] and [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] since they’re easy to remember for others, I think they’re cute, and I’m just used to them the most.

My name’s fairly short and I’ve never really had a nickname. There’s been the typical [name_f]Princess[/name_f], [name_m]Chick[/name_m], [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] etc from family members but that’s about it. Some people have tried to call me [name_m]George[/name_m] in the past, but I put a stop to that. My friends also went through a (very short) period of calling me [name_m]Geo[/name_m].

If I could nickname myself then I’d probably go with [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_f]Gia[/name_f] (hence my username). Honestly, I don’t think I really suit any of the nicknames that come with my name though. I could probably pull off [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or Livi from my middle name.

I was Cazz in my teens ([name_f]Carys[/name_f]) and I insisted it be spelt with two Z’s. I still think it looks incomplete spelt Caz. No one really calls me this now apart from my mum which I think is sweet. Whilst it’s not a nickname people often call me by the first syllable of my name, ‘Ca’ (like in cat) which I don’t mind if I’m familiar with the person but it’s super annoying if I barely know someone and they decide to shorten my name like we’re best pals.
