Nicolette?

Thoughts on this name? How do you perceive this name?

I should add that my name is Nicole and I’m not too sure about naming my little girl after me.

I love Charlotte with the nickname Charley…but I hate how popular it has become.

I know a [name_f]Nikolette[/name_f], nn [name_u]Niko[/name_u]. Cutest. [name_u]Ever[/name_u].

I come from a family of women who pass down their names (or a similar name, like [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]/[name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]), so it does not seem unusual to me, especially if you and she do not go by the same name.

As for the name itself, I think it’s pretty and stands out in a good way, and it will easily grow up with her. The only downside is that some might be reminded of Nicorette (the nicotine gum). [name_f]Colette[/name_f] would be a similar option that’s even less matchy with [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], if you’re still unsure of naming her after you.

I like it.

Not sure it would work

It’s okay. I definitely prefer [name_f]Colette[/name_f], which is sweet and simple.

What is it you like about [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]? Is it that she’d be named after you? If so, I second [name_f]Colette[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Coco[/name_f], [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] ”), which is just listed as ‘surname name’ on Nameberry, but it’s as a first name, it’s actually just the shortened version of [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]/[name_f]Nicole[/name_f] and feminized version of [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. That way, it’s more subtle, but still carries that same tribute.

If you just like it because you like it and it has nothing to do with a namesake, then I’ll suggest a few more, as I think that would be confusing (and in case you don’t like [name_f]Colette[/name_f]).

Both [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] end with ‘tte,’ so perhaps you’d like [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] (nn. [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_u]Jojo[/name_u], [name_u]Julie[/name_u], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Lili[/name_f]) or perhaps [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]/[name_f]Scarlette[/name_f]? Others:

[name_f]Adette[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucette[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
Hariet
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (nn. [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f])
[name_f]Audrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]

I am afraid it reminds me of a product to quit smoking called Nicorette that used to be advertised all the time…but I’m not sure if that’s a current thing? Personally I might go one step further and use [name_f]Nicoletta[/name_f], because that doesn’t have the nicorette association for me (but if this is a dated or regional association it might not apply to you AT ALL!). Other than that I think [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] is quite pretty, and I know someone with this name and I think she’s happy with it (friend of a family member, so I’ve never directly talked to her about it, but she uses her full name, not a nickname, etc.)

I love the idea of [name_f]Colette[/name_f] as an honor name for [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]–as others have mentioned it is in fact a diminutive of [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] in its origins, though it has plenty of history as a stand-alone name. But I think [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] is also a cute way of naming a daughter a “junior” name that still leaves open a possibility for her “own” name too–using [name_u]Nico[/name_u] or [name_f]Colette[/name_f] as a nickname, or the obvious [name_f]Nicki[/name_f]–if you don’t already use that yourself–or something more removed like [name_f]Ettie[/name_f]. It’s a little TOO similar for mother/daughter for my own taste, whereas I think that [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is just perfectly removed from the original, but that’s just a matter personal taste, nothing against the idea of naming your daughter a more closely related name (lots of ____ Juniors out in the world with even more similar names to their parents, after all!).

[name_m]Just[/name_m] another thought in terms of an alternative to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], nn [name_u]Charley[/name_u], what do you think of [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Carly[/name_f]?

I like it, and naming your daughter after yourself is not really unusual. You could call her [name_f]Colette[/name_f] or [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], and then no one would even notice that they were similar.
