I am on the search for unusual boy choices. My daughter goes to school with boys named [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_m]Forest[/name_m] and [name_u]Storm[/name_u]…so what about [name_m]Night[/name_m]? It seems strong for a nature-ish name.
Oh, it’s NMS. I just read the thread about [name_m]Birch[/name_m], and I’m not a fan of either [name_m]Birch[/name_m] or [name_m]Night[/name_m].
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Sky[/name_u], [name_u]Lake[/name_u], or [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]? Those all feel a bit more acceptable to me. [name_m]Night[/name_m] is a time of day, not a nature name, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Mind you, there are girls named [name_f]Evening[/name_f], and boys and girls named [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], so why not [name_m]Night[/name_m]? Feels more like a black dog’s name, but if you like it, who am I to stop you?
I like a lot of word names and nature names, but some are better in the middle. This is better in the middle. If I were to encounter a boy and he said his name was [name_m]Night[/name_m], I would think it was [name_m]Knight[/name_m]. I don’t like any time of day names anyway, or weather names really.
I’m all for [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Oak[/name_u], and the like, though.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] instead? I believe she was the goddess of night in Greek mythology. [name_m]Night[/name_m] is kind of weird for a real person. I think it could work on a character, but not on a real child.
A lifetime of ‘no, without a k, [name_m]Night[/name_m] like the opposite of [name_u]Day[/name_u]’. Homonyms don’t make good names.
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] is the primordial deity of the night. I don’t like her name on a boy or a girl. Too abrupt and it sounds like [name_f]Nix[/name_f].
I can totally see [name_m]Night[/name_m] or [name_m]Knight[/name_m] working on a boy.
What about [name_m]Midnight[/name_m] instead? I knew a boy named that. I also know an [name_f]Indigo[/name_f]. Otherwise, [name_m]Night[/name_m] is cool, but it might be better in the middle. It depends on your middle choice and your last name.
I don’t particularly like [name_m]Night[/name_m] as a first, but do think it’d make a fun and unusual middle. I agree it could be easily confused with [name_m]Knight[/name_m]. I can imagine a really cool guy rocking the name [name_m]Night[/name_m], but not sure a shy one would wear it as well- I guess that’s the case for all names, especially unusual ones! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like Knightley?
