Hello,
I’m getting some issues with the name [name_m]Nils[/name_m]. Some of my friends hear “kneels” and I guess they see here a sexual connotation. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Nils[/name_m] is wearable for a little boy?
Thank you
Hello,
I’m getting some issues with the name [name_m]Nils[/name_m]. Some of my friends hear “kneels” and I guess they see here a sexual connotation. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Nils[/name_m] is wearable for a little boy?
Thank you
So wearable! I love short, punchy names for boys and [name_m]Nils[/name_m] is incredibly handsome.
I didn’t think “kneels” until you mentioned it and it doesn’t color the name for me. I think [name_m]Nils[/name_m] is a fantastic name and is absolutely wearable.
I think [name_m]Nils[/name_m] is great, but if you live in the South or somewhere where people tend to pronounce “meals” as “mills” or “pen” as “pin,” I can see how it could get misheard/construed as “kneels” – not that that would definitely be a deal breaker for me either.
It doesn’t take much creativity to turn almost any name into something dirty or negative, and I can think of a lot of popular names that can be twisted to have much more blatantly dirty associations than “kneels.” ([name_u]Ash[/name_u] and [name_f]Anais[/name_f], both great names, come to mind.) So if you love it, I say go for it.
Thank you Berries!
We live in the [name_u]North[/name_u].
More opinions to reassure me?
Definitely wearable. I know a man named [name_m]Nils[/name_m]. I can easily picture it on a boy or a man.
Thank you! I’m happy to hear that.
Anyone, please?
I’d never hear of the name.
I pronounced it [name_m]Nills[/name_m] when i first glanced at it.
I think it sounds more masculine than feminine.
[name_m]Nils[/name_m] is a great name, I would have no reservations in using it.
[name_m]Nils[/name_m] is a very common boy name in Western and Northern Europe. I wonder if Americans know to pronounce it with a long ee, that would be my only reservation.
And I roll my eyes at dumb, sexualizing comments. I would have never thought of “kneels.”
My only hesitation would be that the word nil means “nothing”, which is what I thought of when I first saw it. I don’t feel like I’d personally want to give my kid a name that meant nothing, but depending on where you live this term may or may not be an issue.
I had the same thought as the above @squidly. I’m not familiar with the name and it looked like nil to me.
Agree with the 2 posters above. I initially thought of nil, meaning nothing.
Definitely use it! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name… Alternative spelling [name_m]Niels[/name_m] works too. I think [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] works really well as a middle name for [name_m]Nils[/name_m].
I didn’t hear any sexual meanings, but I did hear “nil” as in nothing. Personally, I’m not a fan of the name no matter the meaning. If you’re looking for short names with that sort of long “ee” sound, I know a kid named [name_u]Read[/name_u]–or [name_u]Reed[/name_u], I’m not sure how they spell it. [name_u]Reece[/name_u]. [name_f]Nix[/name_f]/[name_f]Nyx[/name_f] is a favorite of mine, though that’s always been more of a name that I’d use in one of my stories rather than for a kid.
Thank you so much Berries!
I like [name_f]Nyx[/name_f], but it is a girl name.
I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Reece[/name_u], sorry.
Thank you
