Nim/Nym

Working on a blog post and I’ve just rediscovered this adorable little syllable!

What are your thoughts? Which spelling do you prefer? Is it enough for a full name and, if not, what could it be short for besides [name_f]Nimue[/name_f]?

I do like it, but I think I’d prefer it as a nickname. It’s very sweet and I like the simplicity
[name_m]Nim[/name_m] is my favourite spelling!

I think it could make a sweet, unexpected nickname for [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] maybe or even [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] . Nymphadora maybe, if you want to be bold

Cute! I think I prefer the spelling [name_m]Nim[/name_m], and I love it as a nickname. [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] and [name_u]November[/name_u] come to mind as options, and I also second @greyblue’s ideas of [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]!

Very sweet! Nymph-like in fact. I can’t see it as a full name though. I agree great nickname for [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. Also [name_f]Dymphna[/name_f]. It reminds me of other very appealing names and nicknames: [name_m]Kip[/name_m], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_m]Pip[/name_m], [name_u]Min[/name_u], Tib - while the first 2 of these are great as full names, I can only see the other 3 as nns. Not sure which spelling I prefer, probably depends: [name_m]Nim[/name_m] for [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] but Nym for [name_f]Dymphna[/name_f].

Thanks - [name_m]Nim[/name_m] short for [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]/[name_f]Noemi[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is inspired!

I wish I liked [name_f]Dymphna[/name_f] because I think the Nym spelling is appealing slightly more. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] idea.

What about [name_f]Nemea[/name_f], Nimpha or Polyhymnia?

I have to go against the grain and say I love [name_m]Nim[/name_m] and prefer it as a full name. I think [name_m]Nim[/name_m] fits in right at home with [name_f]Mia[/name_f] , [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Leah[/name_f] and tbh minus [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] I’m not in love with any full names

I definitely see it more as a nickname than full name, but it’s cute and spunky. I love the suggestions of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]/[name_f]Noemi[/name_f].

Some suggestions:
[name_f]Antonina[/name_f]
[name_f]Nebula[/name_f]
[name_f]Idaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Briallen[/name_f]

I’m sorry if all of these sucked, but thinking of things like this is hard for me.

@[name_f]Elena[/name_f] Not at all! [name_f]Antonina[/name_f] is rather fabulous… not my normal style, but lovely!

@wittyusername I’m a big fan of it as a full name too

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]? Obviously it’s not pronounced how it’s spelled and therefore doesn’t have an ‘M’ but it would be a nice nod to the spelling and I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch.

I think is pretty cute, and I can see it as a full name (maybe a little bit “cheesy” but I think I’d get use to it). I slightly prefer [name_m]Nim[/name_m]. Nym looks like more like a nickname to me, idk why.

Maybe it could work as a nickname for [name_f]Marina[/name_f] (a bit of a stretch)

I personally really love he name [name_m]Nim[/name_m]!!! I’m glad to see someone else likes it. I think it go stand on its own.

I like Nym for a boy and [name_m]Nim[/name_m] for a girl. I know a little boy named Nyr (also spelt [name_m]Nir[/name_m]) and I have came across the name Nymeria for which Nym could be a nickname. Also, Corporal Nym was a fictional character who appears in two [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] plays.

I love [name_m]Nim[/name_m], and [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] is a gp. I remember someone posting about [name_m]Nim[/name_m] in the forums a while back - you might be able to find it if you search. I had just read a YA graphic novel with a very cool heroine named Nimona. I couldn’t find any real-life/historical usage for Nimona but I do like it (in the same vein as [name_f]Pomona[/name_f], [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], and other spunky ‘mona names). It’s a stretch, but [name_m]Nim[/name_m] could work for any name with “min” in it, as we do so often get nicknames from scrambling letters. [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] could like it as an alternative to [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] or [name_f]Willa[/name_f].

Nymeria Sand is called Lady Nym in Asoiaf and I thought the thread is going to be about the name Nymeria lol

Oh, [name_f]Naima[/name_f] could work as another full name option.

oh, I absolutely love the name [name_m]Nim[/name_m]! It’s one of my favorites. While I do think it could make a good nn ([name_f]Nimue[/name_f] is a gp of mine), I also really like it as a full name.

A blogger I follow recently had another daughter, and named her [name_m]Nim[/name_m]! I think it’s so so adorable and sweet.

Thank you all for the additional replies! I’m glad so many like [name_m]Nim[/name_m] too

Some intriguing suggestions for full names but they’re mostly a bit too elaborate for me. Fabulous ideas though!

I like the idea of [name_m]Nim[/name_m]/Nym for [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Dimity[/name_f]?

Nimona, Nimira, Nimra or [name_u]Nima[/name_u] could work!
