Nimrod

There is a (Hungarian) kid in my school named [name_m]Nimrod[/name_m], but is consistently called Nimmy… What are your thoughts?

A bit unfortunate in today’s world, although it’s most likely a cultural name for him. I don’t really have any opinions on it, but Nimmy is sweet.

I agree with @halinka that it seems rather unfortunate these days, despite a significance it probably has for his family. Nimmy is very cute and I am a fan of it though! [name_f]Nim[/name_f] as well is a very cute nickname option.

It is a biblical name but likely not one I ever see going “on the rise” due to the unfortunate association

I do really like Nimmy tho… I wonder if that could be a nn for something else?

I do think the ‘rod’ ending is a bit unfortunate but it’s cool

Nimmy is cute! It’s a shame but I can’t see [name_m]Nimrod[/name_m] catching on - ‘rod’ is a little off-putting. I do like its cute-but-clunkiness though!

What a [name_m]Nimrod[/name_m]!

Nimrod is probably fine in other cultures but I personally would avoid it because of the negative slang meaning in [name_f]English[/name_f].

Because of the negative slang connotations, I wouldn’t give it to a child in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking culture. However, since he’s Hungarian, it probably doesn’t have the same associations for his parents!

I think [name_m]Nimrod[/name_m] is a cool name and Nimmy is a lovely nickname.

My only association with the word nimrod is when you call someone an idiot / buffoon
