I’ve loved this name for a long time now, I love its sound and how it looks, the Arthurian connection and the sweet nickname of “[name]Nim[/name].” However I’ve always put it in the guilty pleasures list because practically to me it feels like it wouldn’t work in RL, perhaps in middle spot but not in first spot.
I think it could work in the middle, but it would be tougher as a fn because I’d guess you’d have a lot of pronunciation issues. I’ve never seen it before and guessed it was ‘ni-mew’. And when I say it [name]Nim[/name]-oo-ay it sort of sounds made-up. Although I completely agree, [name]Nim[/name] is an adorable nn.
It has a lovely sound, but I think it would be hard in the first spot. I’ve heard variations on the name before. I’ve heard The Lady of the [name]Lake[/name] was named Nimiane or Nineve too. Those might be easier in the first name spot, and I have Nimiane on my GP list.
I definitely think it’s better in the middle. It’s a gorgeous name with a great connection, but most people are going to say ni mew and wonder what the heck it is.
I love Nimue and the nickname [name]Nim[/name], but I unfortunately think that there would be a lot of pronunciation issues if someone were to try to use it in real life. I remember posting it here once and someone commenting that it reminded them of Shamu, the whale at SeaWorld, and it took a minute for me to realize how they got there. I imagine that issues like that would come up fairly frequently.
I think that [name]Clara[/name] Nimue and [name]Tamar[/name] Nimue are really gorgeous. [name]Freya[/name] Nimue is very pretty as well, but it’s a bit too “mystical” seeming for me liking. It also reminds me of the BBC show [name]Merlin[/name], because I think there’s a [name]Freya[/name] and a Nimue each on that show.
