This is my first post, so bear with me if this has been discussed already! I’m a fan of 80s and 90s names that are now labeled as “outdated” by baby namers. My all-time favorite girl’s name has been [name]Jamie[/name] for as long as I can remember. I love the combination [name]Jamie[/name] [name]Alicia[/name]. Other “outdated” favorites include [name]Katie[/name] and Leighann. I wouldn’t want to stick a child with a name that made her feel outdated, but I LIKE the fact that those names are from the generation of Cabbage Patch Dolls and Care Bears. I find them nostalgic. Do you think a 90s name would make a child feel outdated, or have the lines blurred in light of recent naming trends? Thoughts on [name]Jamie[/name] for a girl?
I don’t really think of [name]Jamie[/name] as dated, even though I’m not a fan of it. My name is pronounced the same as [name]Casey[/name], which is really linked to the late 80’s and early 90’s on both genders, which I guess to some on here would be considered dated, however, its my name. I’ve never considered it dated or whatever. Your [name]Jamie[/name] would probably be the same
I think [name]Jamie[/name] would be fine. I also feel nostalgic about the 80s names - I really like [name]Amanda[/name] and [name]Stephanie[/name], for example. I think most people having children right now don’t like those names too much because they are the names of their own generation.
I think [name]Jamie[/name] would be okay? Maybe? I like [name]Caitlin[/name] and [name]Emily[/name] which are fairly '90s, so I feel your pain.
I think, however, [name]Amy[/name] is more classic than [name]Jamie[/name]? Maybe that’s just the [name]Little[/name] Women nerd in me coming out, though. And I know [name]Amy[/name] had its day in the '70s.
I think one thing that nineties names have going for them is that even though, say, [name]Emily[/name] was the most popular from 1995 until the 2000s, [name]Emily[/name] maxed out at like 1.36% of baby girls. Whereas in previous decades the most popular girls name was probably twice that. To be honest, I’d still be pretty leery about that though. But I am the opposite, I am kind of turned off by dated names. Urgh, [name]Melissa[/name]/[name]Jennifer[/name]/[name]Stephanie[/name]/[name]Tiffany[/name]? That’s sooo 80s. I guess it depends on your personality.
Anyway, you thought [name]Donna[/name] was an old lady name, but associate [name]Jamie[/name] with youthfulness. However, I am sure way back when mothers thought [name]Donna[/name] was a spritely young name, not an old lady name. Some names just age.
I think there are a lot of “dated” names that don’t sound dated. [name]Jamie[/name], [name]Katie[/name] ([name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Katelyn[/name]), [name]Casey[/name], [name]Jordan[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Riley[/name], [name]Anna[/name] etc. Then there are others that do sound dated like [name]Courtney[/name], [name]Dana[/name], [name]Taylor[/name], [name]Michelle[/name]. So I think it just depends on which name you end up going with.
