Nn for Eliana Angelica!

My DD is [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f], and everywhere we go it is mispronounced, or people immediately say “oh [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]?” and I hate it. I don’t think the sweet nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] fits my willful, wild, and spunky little girl! Her friends at daycare call her nanna (which apparently is Scandinavian meaning daring) but I don’t think this will catch on. What can I do to avoid this nn predicament! I love the meaning of [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], but I hate that the name now seems impossibly trendy with [name_f]El[/name_f]-prefix and the way too common -iana ending. I have major name regret and don’t know what to do :frowning:

Have considered [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nanna[/name_f] as possible alternative nn’s. I would love suggestions/input!

Thank you!

I know a little girl that is nicknamed [name_f]Nani[/name_f] (“beautiful”).

[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] is an adorable name. I love both of the names so much!! I two little girls with the name [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], neither one goes by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. First off, I’d say [name_f]Nanna[/name_f] would be one you’d want to avoid. It isn’t a problem at all when she’s little, but [name_f]Nanna[/name_f]/[name_f]Nana[/name_f] is another word for grandma. Secondly, [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is a cute nickname, but it feels so far off from [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Lia[/name_f], and I think it would be pretty easy to catch on. When people respond calling her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], just say “We prefer [name_f]Lia[/name_f], or just [name_f]Eliana[/name_f],” politely, and unless they are just downright being rude, they’ll comply  And if one person hears her being called [name_f]Lia[/name_f], they’re more likely to call her [name_f]Lia[/name_f] the next time instead of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

[name_m]Just[/name_m] another suggestion, my personal favorite nn for [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] is [name_f]Ana[/name_f]. The previous suggestion of [name_f]Nani[/name_f] is cute, too.

I love [name_f]Nani[/name_f]! and unfortunately the Scandinavian nanna doesn’t translate well here in the states, despite being the name of lead female vocalist for the band Of monsters and Men(DDs favorite, she is enthralled by their music). I love [name_f]Lia[/name_f], but its such a pretty, delicate name, and DD is anything but delicate! Its still one of my favorites, but, much like her full name, I don’t know if it suits such a rough and tumble little girl. Our last name starts with V so thats where [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (E.V) comes from, but it is still far off from [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], so I don’t know if its realistically usable… I wish I could have foreseen her personality better before giving her such a lilting, princess-y name!

I like [name_f]Nani[/name_f]. I also [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Lia[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about-
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Ana[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lina[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Elle[/name_f]

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]- [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought of [name_f]Ena[/name_f]? That could work.

You could go with a nickname that is unrelated to [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]. Trying to think of some fun, spunky ones.

[name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Avis[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f] (actually [name_f]Elle[/name_f] works as a nickname to [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]), [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Star[/name_f]

A name of a favorite color, animal, book, flower, food, etc.

I like [name_f]Ana[/name_f], but not [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as we already have a lot more trouble with people pronoucing her name [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]-anna instead of [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Lena[/name_f]!
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce [name_f]Ena[/name_f]?

I like [name_u]Elia[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]. I think it stands out from all the [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s.

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Lia[/name_f]!

Have you considered [name_f]Liana[/name_f]. A [name_f]Liana[/name_f] is a jungle vine, can’t think of a more fitting nickname for you’re wild child…my daughter is also an [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and she’s a little spitfire. Physically though she looks like tinker[name_u]Bell[/name_u] though so it fits i think. I to have had Some name regret with this name.i had no idea it was trendy, chose it as a traditionally Jewish name. grandparents still mispronounce as ee ly ana, ugh. I dislike [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], call mine [name_f]Ella[/name_f] but no one else will. I think [name_f]Ana[/name_f] could work well for you to.[name_f]Lana[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] are nice.[name_f]Leelee[/name_f]/[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]/[name_f]Lili[/name_f] [name_f]Liana[/name_f] its my favorite though x and is strong and beautiful

I’ve tried calling her [name_f]Elle[/name_f], but no one else will :frowning: I like [name_f]Liana[/name_f], but there are so many other little girls with the -iana ending at her daycare. I really didn’t realize how popular this was! I chose the name for the hebrew meaning but I wish I had chosen something else. I think [name_f]Leelee[/name_f] is really cute but I don’t know if I can get anyone else to use it. Everyone but me just calls her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], even when I tell them I prefer her full name!

[name_m]How[/name_m] old is she? I know what you mean about others not using an intended nickname. I would just correct them when they say [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and say no we are calling her [name_f]LeeLee[/name_f]. Eventually she will probably correct others. I have the same deal no one calls mine [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. I only gave her a longer name for religious and personal meaning. I was surprised. [name_m]Will[/name_m] your child’s dad use [name_f]LeeLee[/name_f]? If your both on board I think it would eventually stick. [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is nice to I use it occasionally but it seems so short its more of a lazy abbreviation than a name or nickname to me.
