Nn for Harley

What are some good nn’s for [name]Harley[/name]?

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Hank[/name] is a stretch? What about [name]Hart[/name]?

[name]TIA[/name]!!!

I like [name]Harvey[/name] better than [name]Harley[/name], and then you have Harv. Otherwise, I don’t see many options (just my opinion). Maybe you could incorporate the middle name into the nickname?

[name]Lee[/name] for [name]Harley[/name]
[name]Hal[/name] for [name]Harley[/name]?

I don’t think [name]Hank[/name] or [name]Hart[/name] really work, but [name]Hart[/name] works better than [name]Hank[/name].

Respectfully,

[name]Harley[/name] is a nickname…

Not a fan of [name]Harley[/name]. The biker gang [name]Harley[/name]-[name]Davidson[/name] association is way too strong.
Plus I knew a girl named [name]Harley[/name] and so I think it’s kinda feminine sounding. And of course [name]Harlow[/name]… another girls name which is arguably even more masculine sounding than [name]Harley[/name].

I do like [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Harvey[/name] though, as alternatives. =p

To answer your question : I think [name]Hank[/name] and [name]Hart[/name] are stretching it as far as nn’s go but I think they are both acceptable since they are loosely similar to [name]Harley[/name]. If it were me I would go with [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Hart[/name] rather than [name]Harley[/name] nn [name]Hank[/name] or [name]Hart[/name].

@agirlinred - [name]Harley[/name] is an Olde English name meaning “meadow of the hare” and it has been used in our family for four (soon to be 5) generations that I know of. So I’m not sure why you would think it is a nickname, it’s been standing on it’s own for a few centuries.

@leysin - I think it’s funny that you think the biker connection is too strong AND that it is too feminine sounding. One would think it would be one or the other.

@namelover - The baby’s name will be [name]Harley[/name] [name]Bruce[/name] if it is a boy. Not sure if [name]Bruce[/name] in the middle spot helps on the nn front, but it is a nonnegotiable family name.

I am leaning towards [name]Hart[/name] as a nn, and I think it works well. Lots of nn’s are a stretch. Really I think all the negative feedback has helped cement my choice rather than deter me. Still, while I want feedback on nicknames, it isn’t overly helpful to hear your personal negative opinions about the name [name]Harley[/name] itself (or [name]Bruce[/name]), we are aware of the issues but are committed to our family traditions. Thanks!

LoL!
I like the name [name]Harley[/name]. Couldn’t possibly be because I had a male friend named [name]Harley[/name] (he’s about 28 now, and is a hottie!) and his greatest pick-up line… “would you like a ride on a [name]Harley[/name]?” Soooo cheesy but made the girls swoon nonetheless.
I always rolled my eyes whenever I heard him try.

Anyways… great choice on the name. And it has family ties/significance which is awesome!

[name]Harley[/name] [name]Bruce[/name] is really cute. I’m not sure of a nickname… My friend just went by [name]Harley[/name] (His mother is British which is probably why its more popular there then in the States). [name]Hank[/name] could work, but is a bit of a stretch. [name]How[/name] about “B”, Arles, or [name]Leb[/name]? [name]Harry[/name] might work as well, though like [name]Hank[/name], is strongly associated as nicknames for other names.

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

‘[name]Lee[/name]’ [name]Bruce[/name] would just sound ridiculous wouldn’t it ([name]Bruce[/name] [name]Lee[/name])?! I still think [name]Hal[/name] is a great nn for [name]Harley[/name] though. Of course, you’ll do whatever you want. That’s the great thing about being able to name your own kid. And the important thing is to be sure of it yourself.

[name]Harl[/name]? kinda like carl but you know there isn’t much choices for [name]Harley[/name].
[name]Harley[/name] [name]Bruce[/name] is cool. [name]Hart[/name] might work.

I think [name]Hank[/name] is a great nn for [name]Harley[/name]! If you like it, go for it! Other nns can include:

Harles (Like [name]Charles[/name]- a friend of mine, named [name]Harley[/name], goes by Harles- he’s a very cool and nice guy, so I really like this nn.)
[name]Harry[/name]
Harlo- I know this is a girl’s name, but I think it sounds very masculine
[name]Arley[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
Loe
[name]Lee[/name]
[name]Larry[/name]
[name]Hart[/name]
[name]Harl[/name]
Har
[name]Harlan[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
Riles
Hiles
[name]Lars[/name]

for [name]Harley[/name] [name]Bruce[/name]
Heb
Harb
[name]Herb[/name], etc.

Good luck!

wow silly sheila! that’s what I was looking for. I knoew there were options I just couldn’t see the forest for the trees! I’m also thankful for a little bit of positive feedback. I want to love the name!

I think [name]Harley[/name] is a great name with wonderful (and many) nickname options. My favorites are Harles, Harlo, [name]Arlo[/name], [name]Leo[/name], and [name]Hank[/name]. Sometimes you can be too close to something and it takes another person to see things. I’m glad I could help and good luck!
