Nn too similar to older sibling?

I am due to have a second baby girl soon and I thought it would be easy to pick a name - we didn’t struggle with our first, but now we just can’t agree.

My favourite name is [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but I’m worried for nicknames - with an older sibling [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I feel like [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] are a bit too similar and I don’t like [name_u]Laurie[/name_u].

I also love the name [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], or [name_f]April[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but my husband isn’t convinced. He likes [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_u]Jody[/name_u] but they are not my style at all - he is a surfer and to me, those both sound like surfer names. Any suggestions people can come up with based on our current list?

MN will be either [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (family) based on what flows better with the first - no strong preference between them otherwise, LN is relatively common and easy to pronounce 3 syllables.

I really like laurel [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and think it’s pretty with [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I wouldn’t worry too much with the nicknames, it didn’t seem overkill to me… Some water related names to ponder…

[name_f]Maris[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]

[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] could also be [name_f]Lila[/name_f]? Its a bit of a stretch but I think it’s close!

Here’s a little list!

[name_f]Jana[/name_f]
[name_f]Janie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jada[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Inez[/name_f]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Crystal[/name_f]
[name_f]Eila[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marae[/name_f]
[name_f]Moira[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I don’t think [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] are too close to [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Especially [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] - it’s so different! [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] & [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

P.S. not sure if you know but ‘lolly’ is the word we use for sweets/candy here in Australia. Cute!

Both Laurels I know go by [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. Does [name_f]Isla[/name_f] have a nn?

I know two Laurels, and they both just go by [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. Are you generally just a fan of having a nickname, or is there a reason you wouldn’t anticipate using the full name [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]? What about [name_f]Laure[/name_f] as a nickname if you want a shorter name sometimes (it’s also a full name in [name_m]French[/name_m]).

I don’t see [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] as being too similar to [name_f]Isla[/name_f], necessarily, but I also don’t really see them as similar to [name_f]Laurel[/name_f].

I’m not sure from your previous post if your husband is on board with [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], if not, and you’re looking for alternatives, here are some suggestions based on your favorites ([name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]April[/name_f]) and his ([name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_u]Jody[/name_u]):

[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Hana[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Lindy[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorna[/name_f]

Not sure if any of those will meet the mark! And if your husband does like [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] make a very sweet pair

[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is, by far, my favorite from your list. It’s not too close to [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
