Nn's for Kerrigan Reese

Hello everyone,

My friend is having a grandbaby girl and we were discussing possible nicknames for [name]Kerrigan[/name] [name]Reese[/name]. Parents don’t like [name]Kerri[/name]. They are thinking [name]Iggy[/name].

I thought I’d run it by you guys to come up with some fun, cute nicknames that grandma could use.

Thanks for the help!

[name]Lisa[/name]

Hmmmm. [name]How[/name] about [name]Kay[/name]/K, [name]Kiki[/name], Ri, K.R., [name]Kerra[/name], [name]Rai[/name]. There’s not really much if they don’t like [name]Kerri[/name] haha.

To be honest it’s such a masculine name that doesn’t lend it self to many feminine nicknames. [name]Kerry[/name] is the only one that I can come up with and if they don’t like it I’m not sure why they would go ahead and use the name. You can almost guarantee that she will be [name]Kerri[/name] at some point in her life, just like every [name]Daniel[/name] and [name]Matthew[/name] will be known as [name]Dan[/name] and [name]Matt[/name] at some point!

[name]Iggy[/name] is just awful and so masculine! Maybe Kez/Kezzy or [name]Kizzy[/name], both are a stretch but I guess they could work.

I love [name]Kerrigan[/name]! My DH and I go back and forth on whether or not we want to use it for a boy or a girl. If I were using it for a girl her NN would be [name]Kerys[/name] like [name]Cerys[/name] which means love  We have also considered [name]Keegan[/name] which I think would also be adorable

K? [name]Kiki[/name]? Riri? [name]Annie[/name]? or something not-name-related like [name]Sunny[/name], [name]Happy[/name] or [name]Plum[/name]?

See, this is what I mean about unnecessary rudeness. It doesn’t have many nickname options because it’s just not that kind of name, not because it is “masculine.” [name]Ava[/name] doesn’t have many nickname options either and no one says “it’s too girly, that’s why.” [name]Kerrigan[/name] is a great name and it doesn’t need a nickname. Maybe the parents love the name in it’s entirety and don’t want to shorten it, have you ever thought about that? My mother didn’t like [name]Rowan[/name] at all when I chose it, and she tried calling her RJ which drove me nuts and honestly, it was offensive. Her name is [name]Rowan[/name], get over it. And before you start saying “I wasn’t being rude, just expressing my opinion” read back over what you said and tell me again that didn’t sound rude and almost scolding. “[name]Iggy[/name] is just awful” Come on, couldn’t you have just left it at “it’s too masculine to me?”

Kiggy, Kiz, Kezzi, Kez, [name]Kera[/name], [name]Kiki[/name], Riri, [name]Kira[/name], [name]Kiri[/name]??

They shouldn’tve named her [name]Kerrigan[/name] if they don’t like [name]Kerri[/name]…

Before I became more of a namenerd, I wanted to name my DD [name]Kerrigan[/name] because of the game Starcraft, which my DH loves. It is the surname of a girl in the game, so I always viewed it as being girly even if it isn’t. I still see the appeal for it, and I kind of like [name]Iggy[/name]. Boyish nn’s for girls have worked for a long time so I don’t see it not working now. Some may not like boyish nn’s though, so I guess they should go with that sounds right.

I also like the idea of [name]Kiki[/name] or [name]Kerra[/name] like a pp said. I also like Kizzy, but it could be a stretch, but nn’s can be a stretch.

Goodluck to your friend!

It’s the internet, I’m entitled to my opinion and I’m not the kind of person who goes back on what I say anyway. I’m not saying people have to agree with me and seriously who cares what I have to say? If they love something, then they’ll use it regardless. I just don’t see how you can like the name [name]Kerrigan[/name] but not [name]Kerri[/name] seeing as it forms the majority of the name.

Ok, this is a stretch, but maybe [name]Regan[/name]?
I know the name is not Ker-[name]REE[/name]-gan, but nicknames don’t have to be 100% matchy. [name]Just[/name] a thought!

I really don’t think sheflieswithherownwings was being that rude. It isn’t an overly feminine name, and I’m sure the expecting parents are aware of that, and probably why they like it. She didn’t say that it was a bad name, just that it doesn’t lend itself to maybe feminine nicknames, other than [name]Kerry[/name].

I think [name]Kerra[/name] is the best option, and the sound is definitely in the name. If it’s for a grandma anything can go and it may just come naturally when shes born, maybe something like [name]Kiki[/name], as pp said. [name]Kerr[/name], [name]Kay[/name], maybe even [name]Ria[/name] from the [name]KerRIgAn[/name], maybe I’m pulling at strings here.

Best of luck with your granddaughter

[name]Iggy[/name]. IS AWFUL there is no other way to say that…why did they name her that then?

Hello everyone!

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions. I will pass them along to grandma to see what she thinks.

My favorites so far are [name]Kerra[/name] and [name]Annie[/name].

Rigan, pronounced like Shakespeares [name]Regan[/name] (ree-gahn)

[name]Kiki[/name] is adorable.

Everyone seems to want to pronounce [name]Regan[/name] [name]REE[/name]-gan… Why not [name]Reagan[/name] ([name]RAY[/name]-gan)?

[name]How[/name] about [name]KerRIgAN[/name] [name]Reese[/name] (prn Re-ann)?. I thought of it because there is a character in the show “[name]Little[/name] Mosque on the [name]Prairie[/name]” called Rayyan ([name]Rye[/name]-[name]Ann[/name]) and I think [name]Rian[/name] would work well of any age (also it would suit a girly-girl as well as a tom-boy).

I just think if you use the spelling Rigan (like in [name]Kerrigan[/name]) it would be the more natural pronunciation (also I like it better :)). Spelling it Rigan and pronouncing it like [name]Reagan[/name] would seem off to me.
