No”lla or not?

My next daughter’s name will be [name]Sophia[/name]. I am needing to find a middle name for her. I love the idea of it starting with an “N”, but it doesn’t have to. With the help of nameberry, we have decided against naming her [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nouvel[/name]/Nouvelle. While I love the sound of this word (admitting it’s not a name), I am embarrassed to have actually liked that at one point hides face. I have been tirelessly searching for the correct middle name. I want it to be somewhat exotic (French names are a plus!), interesting, and still pretty (tall order, I know!). I thought [name]Noelle[/name] sounds similar to Nouvelle, it is a legitimate name, but [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] it is too boring. Adding the accent over the “e” helps, making it look more exotic, but it’s still just [name]Noelle[/name]. I was really getting sick of all of this when I discovered No”lla. It has personality, it’s exotic, it’s beautiful! But it doesn’t necessarily sound very good with [name]Sophia[/name] :frowning: I don’t mind having first and middle names ending with “a”, as my first daughter’s name is ”va [name]Natalia[/name].

Our other option is [name]Mila[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]. I [name]ADORE[/name] this, but dh really had his heart on [name]Sophia[/name] as the first name, and agreed to save [name]Mila[/name] for daughter #3.

What do I do?

[name]Sophia[/name] No”lla? I love it so much, but don’t know if I should allow myself to do so…

Can anyone give me advice or opinions, please?

I really like [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Noelle[/name], I don’t think it’s boring at all! I’m not really a fan of the sound of [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Noella[/name], it’s too long and frilly for me. I also really dislike the accents over the e. Some N suggestions…

[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nadine[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nala[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] (ok, a little old, but I think it’s adorable!)
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nanette[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Naya[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nell[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] this)
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nicole[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Noa[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nola[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] Noralie
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Nova[/name]

I’m on board with the umlauts, but I like the sound of [name]Sophia[/name] No”lle better. Although [name]Sophia[/name] No”lla does have a certain sing-songy quality that is pretty cute and fancy…

[name]Hi[/name] Noro,

I have a little [name]Sophia[/name] myself and we wanted a somewhat exotic middle name for her as well, so I see where you’re coming from. I think that [name]Noella[/name] (sorry, I’m too lazy to figure out umlauts) is pretty. The flow with [name]Sophia[/name] isn’t ideal (both three syllables with stress in the second syllable), but I don’t think it’s bad at all. Actually, it’s sort of sweet. Maybe it’s how they look on paper together–[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Noella[/name]–that’s the small problem for me–since they both have six letters, there’s not a tremendous amount of contrast, but I don’t think that’s a deal breaker.

For some reason, I’ve fastened on French names for you, and here are a few that begin with N:

[name]Nadine[/name]
[name]Noemie[/name] (accent over the e, and pronounced no-ay-MEE)
[name]Nicolette[/name]
[name]Nanette[/name]

I was also thinking of French nature names, such as [name]Neige[/name] (snow) (short e, and “ge” sounds sort like the “s” in measure).

There’s also [name]Niamh[/name], which is Irish and pronounced Nehv.

[name]Hope[/name] that helps a little bit . . .

I have a few ideas for you…

  1. [name]Noella[/name] (no acent unless you live in [name]France[/name]) IS a beautiful name! Why not use it for a first name. [name]Way[/name] more unique than [name]Sophia[/name]!

  2. [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] is gorgeous. Forget the “a” on [name]Noelle[/name] since it would ruin the flow.

  3. [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Noella[/name] - again to avoid the double “a” ending.

  4. [name]Just[/name] go for the name you love… [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Noella[/name], since it really isn’t awful. The flow just isn’t ideal.
