Noa/Noah for a girl!?

I would just be prepared for a lot of ‘[name]Noa[/name]…Isn’t that a boy’s name?’ comments.

I tend to stick to the ‘boys names on boys, girls names on girls’ theme as well, but given that [name]Noa[/name] is a legitimate girl’s name, I’d give it a pass. It’s not for me though.

Noah | The amazing name Noah: meaning and etymology

The name [name]Noah[/name] appears twice in the English Bible, but in Hebrew these two names are totally different, and their meanings are exact opposites. The [name]Noah[/name] first mentioned in Numbers 26:33 (pronounced No’ah) is one of the five daughters of Zelophehad (see below for a translation). Her sisters are named [name]Mahlah[/name], Hoglah, [name]Milcah[/name] and [name]Tirzah[/name].

The [name]Noah[/name] mentioned in [name]Genesis[/name] (pronounced [name]Noach[/name], with a ch like [name]Bach[/name]) is the main character of the great flood cycle, and father of [name]Shem[/name], [name]Ham[/name] and [name]Japheth[/name].

But [name]Noah[/name] is pn as Noh-uh in English since the -ach sound doesn’t exist in our language. However, Noh-[name]AH[/name] shouldn’t be hard…

I definitley agree with this.

I have a male [name]Noah[/name], and I have no objection to [name]Noa[/name] for girls. It is a legit female name with its own etymology. [name]Noa[/name] is an interesting (if very minor) figure in the bible. She’s one of the five daughters of Zelophehad who petitioned [name]Moses[/name] for the right to inherit their father’s property since he had no sons. [name]Moses[/name] took their case to God who decreed that they deserved to inherit. I picture 5 strong-willed, sharp, determined proto-feminists.

That said, I would stay away from any name that sounds identical to a Top 10 name for the opposite sex. To me, it’s not the same as having a unisex name that is at least familiar for both genders. I think it would get old fast.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Noa[/name] for a girl!

Now has always been my favourite name but I think it’s best with a feminine middle (lilac is my favourite)
