My husband I both like [name]Noa[/name] for a future daughter.
Does it flow well with our children’s names? Our son is [name]Bryar[/name] and our daughter is [name]Scarlett[/name].

I love [name]Noa[/name] on a girl, almost as much as I do for a boy but here in the UK people would never know that [name]Noa[/name] was a girls name. People will always just assume boy regardless of the spelling, which is a shame because it’s such a sweet name, I just wish it were more widely recognised.
[name]Bryar[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Noa[/name] looks fine but I’d be a little worried that people would assume boy because [name]Scarlett[/name] is an obviously feminine name. [name]How[/name] do people react to [name]Bryar[/name]'s name? I’m just curious because that is probably considered pretty unisex [name]IRL[/name].
[name]Love[/name] it. I always kinda assume an “a” ending is a more feminine name, so i wouldn’t be worried about the sex thing. (Also, I’m giving my 3rd child/first girl what is arguably a “male” name, so that’s where I’m coming from.)
We have received a lot of compliments on his name especially from men I honestly had no idea that it was considered unisex until he was almost 1…fell in love with the name after [name]Liam[/name] Neeson played a character named [name]Bryar[/name]. In our area there are at least 3 boy [name]Bryar[/name]'s ranging from toddlers to high school but we have yet to hear of or meet any girl [name]Briar[/name]'s.
I think [name]Scarlett[/name] would be the odd man out since [name]Bryar[/name]/[name]Briar[/name] and [name]Noa[/name]/h are unisex
Of course on paper you can tell that [name]Noa[/name] is a girl but if I heard their names I’d think you had two boys and a girl
Thats what I was worried about…Im usually drawn to very feminine girl names.
[name]Bryar[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name] are tough-sounding names. They have hard sounds (lots of Rs, and consonant sounds in general). They’re also unambiguously gendered: [name]Bryar[/name] is all-boy (despite the princess [name]Briar[/name] [name]Rose[/name], people don’t usually associate thorns with girls), and [name]Scarlett[/name] is all-girl.
For those reasons, gentle, ambiguous [name]Noa[/name] doesn’t fit well. It’s all soft, whispery sounds, and most people are quite unfamiliar with the feminine name [name]Noa[/name].
Some thoughts: N names with tougher sounds, and more obviously feminine:
[name]Nerea[/name] (from the mythical Greek king of the sea, [name]Nereus[/name])
[name]Nereida[/name] (from the sea-nymphs, nereieds)
[name]Nerissa[/name] (Shakspearean name, clever character)
[name]Nora[/name] (one extra letter solves your problems!)
Norella (elaboration of [name]Nora[/name])
Novara (Italian name meaning ‘new air’)
[name]Nuria[/name] (brilliant, shining: Spanish name via Arabic)
[name]Nyree[/name] (a New Zealand actress)
[name]Noemi[/name] (Spanish form of [name]Naomi[/name])
[name]Nova[/name] (“new”)
Yeah, I think is what I was getting at with asking about [name]Briar[/name]'s name. I do see [name]Briar[/name] as masculine but I know many won’t, probably because [name]Briar[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is the name of Sleeping Beauty in the Brothers Grimm version of the story. I think it’s very handsome!
I think because [name]Scarlett[/name] is so feminine, I’d assume [name]Noa[/name] was a boy if I heard it being said. Written down I’d know it was female but they both sound the same so personally I’d find something different and move it to the middle name spot. It doesn’t quite work the same as [name]Bryar[/name] because that’s pretty uncommon on either gender, whereas [name]Noah[/name] is an extremely popular boy’s name.
I think that with a son named [name]Bryar[/name], and then brining in a daughter named [name]Noa[/name], I’d have no idea if you had boys or girls… mostly because I’d think [name]Bryar[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name] to be girls since [name]Scarlett[/name] is one of those ‘definitely feminine’ names, and then [name]Noa[/name] sounding so masculine. I don’t see [name]Bryar[/name] as being feminine, though.
I know a number of girls and women named [name]Ainhoa[/name]. It’s longer like [name]Scarlett[/name], but doesn’t seem frilly, and next to [name]Bryar[/name], [name]Ainhoa[/name] doesn’t come across as being masculine.
So it sounds like I need to pick something along the lines of our other favorites…like [name]Arabella[/name]…[name]Vivienne[/name]…names that are clearly female so that [name]Bryar[/name] is clearly masculine.
THanks for the input!!
While I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Noa[/name], it looks really odd with your sibset, sorry! [name]Vivienne[/name], on the other hand - perfect!
Thank you =)
[name]Vivienne[/name] is divine! I love [name]Mirabella[/name] too.
I say go for [name]Noa[/name]! I really love it…what does it matter if it’s not perfect with your sibset!? Besides, I really think that [name]Noa[/name] and [name]Scarlet[/name] are cute sister names.
I love [name]Noa[/name]! I would know that [name]Noa[/name] and [name]Scarlet[/name] girls but I am not sure about other people’s reactions. Would you consider [name]Noelle[/name] with the NN [name]Noa[/name]? That is what I have always planned on doing so that I could have a more feminine FN and still get [name]Noa[/name], it seems like the best of both worlds to me
