Noah, Gideon & ?

So, you berries helped me name #2, and now, believe it or not, it’s time to plan #3. I have no preference boy or girl, but, I am terrified that if I have a boy, I’m going to have no idea what to name it.

I chose [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name] because I loved the old grampa feel they had. I know they are also both solid old testament names, and I do love that they were both popular in the puritan era, but, really want to avoid the, “man, you guys must be really religious” thing.

I know that I’ve already kind of done that, but, I was hoping with a third to balance it out. I don’t mind another biblical name, but, I think I’d shy away from [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Levi[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Moses[/name], [name]Ephriam[/name], [name]Asa[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Issac[/name]…i.e. very biblical, like [name]Noah[/name] & [name]Gideon[/name] are.

Yes, [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name] are OT names, but they are also classic, old fashioned, and from similar language orgins.

I want to see if there are other options out there that would still make a good sibset w/o going with another old testament name. For example, what do you guys think of going with another Hebrew name that isn’t necessarily biblical, like [name]Abbott[/name] or [name]Orin[/name]? Or going with a name that has [name]Christian[/name] overtones, but, isn’t biblical, like [name]Fisher[/name] or [name]Palmer[/name]? Or, something classic, like [name]Andrew[/name] or [name]Thomas[/name]?

To give an idea of our style, if it is a girl our top name contender is [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]. [name]Felicity[/name] ([name]Flick[/name]) [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name] ([name]Percy[/name]) [name]Eve[/name] are also in the running. I’m not really worried about the girl name b/c I feel I have more freedom with the sibset matching, with 2 boys and a girl, than I do with 3 brothers.

Anyways, as always, any help is soooo appreciated! Thanks!

Our boys names are [name]Noah[/name] [name]Robert[/name] (5) and [name]Gideon[/name] [name]James[/name] (almost 2). [name]Both[/name] are toe headed and blue eyed…

FWIW, I really like [name]Thomas[/name] with your boys. This is a tough one, as my brain is screaming [name]EZRA[/name]! [name]EPHRAIM[/name]! [name]ELIAS[/name]!

What about something like [name]Jeremiah[/name]? Yes, Biblical, but used by many non-religious folk. I’m going to mull this one over

[name]How[/name] about Zephan(iah), [name]Matthew[/name], or [name]Peter[/name]? [name]Peter[/name] is surprisingly under used.

You’d like an antique, masculine, down-to-earth, non-Hebrew/biblical name. There’s loads of good options!

[Palmer is a brilliant choice, btw.] Noah, Gideon, &:

Felix (borrow from your girls’ list)
Julius
Caspar
Conrad
Davis
Truman
Francis
Foster
Cyrus
Everett
August
Jonas
Owen
Paul
Walker
Spencer
Cecil
Eldon
Merrick
Prescott
Wallace
Willis

I know you don’t want to hear it but [name]Ezra[/name] is absolutely perfect with [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name]!

[name]How[/name] about; [name]Noah[/name], [name]Gideon[/name] & [name]Jude[/name] or [name]Noah[/name], [name]Gideon[/name] & [name]Solomon[/name]?

Other ideas…
[name]Boaz[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Whittaker[/name]

[name]Blade[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Cyrus[/name] is perfect.

What about [name]Linus[/name]? [name]Linus[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] might work well.

Or…
[name]Marcus[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Jeremy[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Judson[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name]
[name]Curtis[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Felix[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], [name]Peter[/name], and [name]Linus[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you think the world is ready for [name]Linus[/name]? I have to admit, it has always been a favorite of mine, but, I’m hesitant to put it on a kid still.

Thanks guys! Keep them coming if you think of anything else! This is so helpful!

And tk…I actually do like [name]Elias[/name]…a close friend used it recently though, so I would feel weird using it. But, since it’s not a well known, heard every day OT name, I would’ve used it.

[name]Matthias[/name] - variant of Biblical [name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Silas[/name] - less familiar (but rising…) NT name.

Haha, as other posters have been saying, [name]Ezra[/name] really stands out as a good choice. If it helps any, I don’t see [name]Ezra[/name] as overly Biblical sounding. I just think “grandpa name” when I hear it.

Thanks for all the name suggestions. In general though, what do you guys think about the whole “theme” thing? If I already went with [name]Noah[/name] & [name]Gideon[/name] (and I love both btw, and wouldn’t change them for the world), should I just go with another OT name I love? I guess if I was really IN [name]LOVE[/name] with another name, it wouldn’t matter, but, generally, do you think I should continue the theme, or try to balance it out?

Not at all-- I think many of the names you liked from the pool of suggestions would work beautifully. Sure, some names would clash-- [name]Noah[/name], [name]Gideon[/name] and [name]Ryker[/name] wouldn’t really work-- but another antique, be it [name]Silas[/name] (NT) or [name]Cyrus[/name] (ancient Persian) or [name]Linus[/name] (Scandinavian) would be fine.

Go with what you love. [name]Don[/name]'t pick a name because it sounds like something that someone with your naming pattern SHOULD pick. So, continue the pattern or break it…neither is the “wrong” decision.

[name]Don[/name]'t mean to correct you, blade, but [name]Silas[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name] and [name]Linus[/name] are all names in the Bible… So they are still continuing that pattern.

Okay, thanks. I agree, I wouldn’t want something super hipster or something harsh sounding, but, [name]Silas[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], & [name]Linus[/name] are more of what I’m going for b/c they aren’t so overtly biblical…I know it’s a small distinction, but, I find those names more appealing as a sibset with my two than say, [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Abraham[/name], or [name]Moses[/name] or something like that  And in the end, I know I’ll come up with something I love and it won’t matter. That’s what happened with [name]Gideon[/name] actually. Oh well…maybe it will be a girl???

Yeah, I immediately thought biblical when I saw the title so if that isn’t your aim…going with those names that are either not biblical or not so associated. I actually like your idea of [name]Orin[/name]. I think it could fit in well.

I also like the [name]Linus[/name] suggested. I personally think [name]Ezra[/name] is pretty biblical.

My thoughts (sorry for repeats):
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Bram[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Leif[/name]
[name]Simon[/name] (don’t know if you would consider this too biblical)
[name]Miles[/name]/[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Rex[/name]
