Nolwenn - first impression?

[name]Hi[/name], my husband and I are warming up to the idea of naming our second daughter [name]Nolwenn[/name], potential nn [name]Nollie[/name]. Big sister is [name]Amelia[/name]. In order to fully help convince my husband, could you help us and tell us how you feel about this name, and what traits/personality etc. it brings to mind? Is it too different? Refreshingly different? Middle name would likely be [name]Alexandra[/name]. Thanks!

Sounds like [name]Nolan[/name], which I like on boys.

I really like Welsh names and honestly, Celtic names as a whole. [name]Nolwenn[/name] is really quite nice, but if you’re in the US (or [name]Canada[/name]) I don’t think it would work very well.

[name]Elowen[/name] may be a good alternative.

Thanks sidura. We live in [name]Canada[/name]… As for [name]Elowen[/name], we did consider it but my husband decided it reminded him too much of the word Halloween. Men…

Sorry to say, but it kind of confuses my brain. It looks wrong, and then when I say it out loud, I feel like I’ve mispronounced [name]Nolan[/name].

What about [name]Noelle[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Nella[/name], [name]Finola[/name]?

Men indeed! Are you set on a Welsh/Celtic name?

Some other ideas:
[name]Anwen[/name] (maybe not with sister [name]Amelia[/name], though)
[name]Guinevere[/name]
[name]Olwen[/name]
[name]Bronwen[/name]

I’ve gone back and forth on this name. It’s one of those names that looks nice, but saying it out loud tends to be a bit awkward because the stress seems to be on both syllables (at least the way I’m pronouncing it.) I love the “nol” and “wenn” sounds separately, but together doesn’t really seem to flow! [name]Do[/name] you like the name [name]Nola[/name]? [name]Winola[/name]? [name]Winona[/name]? Best of luck

Oh, I am liking [name]Olwen[/name] a lot too, thanks! It’s basically a combination of two of my favorite names, [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Nolwenn[/name], and’s a real name to boot! Adding it to my list, to be discussed with my husband. Thanks cidura!

Any thoughts on [name]Olwen[/name]? I’m thinking [name]Ollie[/name] or [name]Winnie[/name] as nicknames.

I love it! I’m a big fan of [name]Nolwenn[/name] [name]Leroy[/name]

[name]Ollie[/name]! It’s one of my favorite nicknames, so I’m a little biased.

[name]Winnie[/name] is also cute, and a little more feminine.

[name]Olwen[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] sounds nice. I like the repeating vowel-to-L sound.

[name]Olwen[/name] might get mixed up with [name]Owen[/name] a lot. I actually prefer [name]Nolwenn[/name]. I think [name]Nolwenn[/name] is pretty, but I love Welsh names to begin with.
