We’ve narrowed our list down to [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] for the FN. We’d like to use J as the first initial for the middle name in honor of a family member. I’m concerned about her getting teased for the initials VJ (last name starts with S), so I’m thinking we should use a different MN if we go with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Opinions on the names and whether or not you think VJ is a bad idea? Thanks!
I like [name_f]Norah[/name_f] (spelled like this) [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
I adore [name_f]Nora[/name_f] – is it on my favorites list – so that makes it easy.
If you love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], however, I think her being teased about VJ is very far-fetched. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you mean VJ – as in [name_f]Victory[/name_f] over Japan? [name_m]How[/name_m] many kindergarteners are on to that? Maybe I’m just not picking up on what you fear, but I think the initials VJ are pretty safe. I had a nephew whose first and middle gave him the initials TD. My mom wrote a whole story in her head that the kids at school would call him Touch Down. (This was seen as a good thing.) It was a cute fantasy, but it never came to pass. I don’t think he was called TD, let alone Touch Down, once in his life.
If you are still concerned about VJ and still liking [name_f]Violet[/name_f], have you brainstormed about how you could honor the same relative by using another name? Last names are good in the middle. Also you can think about nicknames and names out of the same family of names – such as using [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] to honor an Aunt [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], etc.
I love both names! I am a little more partial to [name_f]Norah[/name_f]. [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is gorgeous.
I’m not really sure what’s tease worthy about VJ…the only concern I’d have with a J middle name is BJ once she reaches her teenage years, but even so, if it’s a middle name it’s less of a concern. What J name were you thinking of? [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] are both relatively equal on my scale, but [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] sounds better, as does [name_f]Nora[/name_f] with [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
In general, however, I tend to stray towards [name_f]Nora[/name_f], because [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is just so popular.
I don’t think initials are too big of a deal honestly unless its a common name where you need the last name like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] D. To separate from [name_f]Jane[/name_f] S.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] really grew on me after liking [name_f]Viola[/name_f] but [name_f]Nora[/name_f] takes my win… Shes a beautiful, simple & unique, if my name wasnt so similar I would have used it…I also really like Noir & [name_f]Norma[/name_f] I is growing on me.
I don’t think the initials are that big of a deal but I really love both [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. If you are looking for middle names I quite like-
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Julianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
or
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Joanna[/name_f]
Good luck
Firstly I wouldn’t worry about the initial issue with VJ I really don’t think people would pick up on that.
My favourite is [name_f]Violet[/name_f]! I cannot stand [name_f]Nora[/name_f] I just find the name totally unappealing and unattractive, she isn’t my thing at all. Whereas [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a lovely floral name, with gorgeous connotations, and a lovely sound.
